CHL Announces the NAPA Draft Prospects of the Month

The Canadian Hockey League today announced the NAPA Draft Prospects of the Month for November, 2007.

Each month the Canadian Hockey League & NAPA Auto Parts will recognize the top draft eligible player from each of the three leagues in the CHL for the upcoming 2008 NHL Entry Draft based on their play over the course of the month. Each winner will be recognized at a future home game and will be presented with a NAPA Auto Parts prize pack.

NAPA Draft Prospects of the Month

Western Hockey League – Luke Schenn, Kelowna Rockets
In the month of November Schenn scored three goals and added seven assists for 10 points and maintained a plus-5 plus-minus rating in 13 games. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native also picked up a goal in the WHL’s game against Russia in the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge in Cranbrook, B.C. on November 28. Schenn, who turned 18 on November 2 was one of 35 CHL players invited to participate in Canada’s final selection camp for the World Junior Championships. He was rated fourth among WHL prospects in the NHL Central Scouting preliminary rankings announced in November. He has four goals and 13 assists for 17 points in 29 games this season.

Ontario Hockey League – Steven Stamkos (http://www.ontariohockeyleague.com/stats/player.php?lang_id=en&id=4595), Sarnia Sting
Stamkos was the OHL’s top scorer among draft eligible players with 13 goals and nine assists for 22 points in 12 games. The 17-year-old from Unionville, Ontario enjoyed seven multi-point games last month, including four point efforts against Windsor on Nov. 1 and Peterborough on Nov. 15 and Nov. 25. Stamkos, who represented the OHL in the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge, was the top rated OHL prospect in the NHL Central Scouting preliminary rankings announced in November. He was also invited to Canada’s final selection camp for the World Junior Championships. He is fifth among OHL scorers this season with 28 goals and 20 assists for 48 points in 29 games.

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League – Nicolas Deschamps, Chicoutimi Sagueneens
Deschamps scored seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points in 11 games. The 17-year-old from Delson, Quebec enjoyed four multi-point games last month, including three-point nights against Rimouski on Nov. 4 and back-to-back games against Quebec on Nov. 28 and Baie-Comeau on Nov. 30. Deschamps was rated sixth among QMJHL prospects in the NHL Central Scouting preliminary rankings announced in November. The first round pick of the Sagueneens in this year’s draft was named the QMJHL’s rookie of the month for November. He is third among QMJHL rookies with 1 goals and 14 assists for 25 points in 31 games this season.
