It's all or nothing for the Niagara IceDogs in the next two weeks.
The IceDogs take on the Belleville Bulls tonight at home, the first of three games in three nights. Niagara also plays host to Barrie Friday night and then heads to Belleville for a Saturday night game. After that, it's some major down time for the IceDogs, who won't hold any official workouts until Boxing Day and don't play again until Friday, Dec. 28 in Kitchener.
Niagara coach Mario Cicchillo indicated the whole roster will be utilized in order to keep the players as fresh as possible.
"Right now, we're a little short on bodies so it will be tough," he said. "We'll start with a full tank of gas and we want to make sure when we get to Saturday night we still have some gas in the tank at the end of the game.
"We'll work the bench."
The IceDogs will be without forward Alex Friesen of Niagara-on-the-Lake, who was hit in practice and is not expected to play in any of the three games. As well, centre Jordan Foreman's status is uncertain after he caught the flu bug that ravaged the team last week.
The IceDogs are healthy on defence with eight bodies, so Chris Van Laren and Reggie Traccitto will be moved up front.
Andrew Loverock will start the two home games while backup Adrian Volpe is expected to play in Belleville. Volpe has won both his previous starts.
Cicchillo said while three in three poses some problems, it's not as hard as it might seem.
"It's tough, but everybody goes to work Monday to Friday and some work overtime Saturday and Sunday," he said. "Some people work seven days a week.
"The kids don't care. If you told them to play five games a week, they'd play five games a week."
