I just got back from today's practice and coach Cicchillo came up to the stands to talk to us - the IceDogs are throwing around the idea of holding a hockey school for adults 35+ who'd be interested in either touching up their hockey skills, or learning from scratch altogether. You're never too young to learn!
The nice aspect of this, is that you will be able to leave your equipment down there at the rink, and it will be taken care of for you - skate sharpening, washing, etc. So you wouldn't have to lug it back and forth each time.
It would a be held during the evenings, and would probably be starting the 2nd last week of August.
They'll be making more of an announcment about it in the upcoming days to see what kind of interest there'd be in such a program.
So to everyone 35+ in the forums - would this sound like something you'd be interested in? All comments and suggestions are welcome!

Man it's been like 30 years since Ive been on skates.
And that long since I was put into the boards.
Could be fun though.

I was pretty reserved about mentioning my potential interest, although I have played hockey my entire life, I am by no means what you would call a skilled player. I do a better impersonation of a Zambonie. So hearing about WDF and ********, I feel a little better. I wouldn't want to humiliate myself.
WDF, how do you not play hockey growing up in the hockey state of the U.S.?

Long long story. But long story short, I played baseball at a fairly high level and was told that I shouldnt play hockey due to the amount of contact, and hockey season overlapped with baseball. So... I played football (with my baseball coaches approval-get that:confused:), basketball, baseball and ran track.
So I am ready now, better late than never eh?

You sound like you have some definite athletic abilities... So, absolutely you're ready! There's a few guys in my oldtimers league that have taken up the sport later in life, having never played growing up, and some are quite good... Maybe hit the ice for public skating prior to full gear...
:confused1: Football over hockey??? I've played both, and boy is football more physical, IMO.

I can't do any worse playing hockey, Just that I might have a hard time skating.
But maybe I will grab a set just for the hell of it.
Is it like riding a bike?

Just like riding a bike, except you fall more and it hurts less 'cause of the equipment! :w00t:

Just think of it as your path is an "S" when skating backwards
I always had problems stopping quickly.
