I never understood cheap shots when i played. They dont gain any retribution whatsoever. It just makes you look like an ass and makes other tough guys want to punch you in the face. Who does Sudbury have as a tough guy? There really needs to be more than one guy per team that can/wants to fight.

I'd like to think that one of our own guys should be the one to serve justice to Van Laren. I mean, this clip was great, and Van Laren got what was coming to him. However, he got what was coming to him because he cross checked Aliu from behind into the boards, cross checked him a second time when he attempted to get up, and then turned his head away and stopped paying attention. Justice was served, but not for the Aggozino fight. That said, amazing clip; I've been watching it all evening.

aliu will be suspended i just read. he sat out last night and is being interviewed tomorrow about the incident by the league. london are hoping he's eligible for game 1 of the playoffs. they have 6 games elft in the reg season

Yeah, as soon as it was listed as indefinite, I knew this would be a long one. The league has started to come down hard on "bullying" which is what Branch will try to categorize this as. Suspension length for bullying is about 8-10 games (see Downie and Bealieu last year). Bullying is generally defined as being an unprovoked attack catching another player off guard - the Downie/Bealieu incidents were like that - I think Aliu's is much different.

Three things in Aliu's defence. The game started with amateur refs (the OHL ones were caught in a snowstorm). The reffing was so bad Hunter was heard yelling that the team wouldn't come back out for the 2nd until the regular refs arrived. The Aliu incident came after Erlich was knocked out with a concussion by Guidice. And as far as the Aliu incident itself, the ref should have called a cross-checking penalty on anyone of the 4 cross-checks before Aliu snapped. The ref created the potential for this incident to happen through failure to do his job. Aliu is not the only one in this league that would have slugged Van Laren in the head for what he was doing to him. And frankly, if you're stupid enough to continue to cross-check any player in the league, you deserve to be popped. One cross-check I can accept, but let it go at that.
