OHL Announces Top Performers for February

The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Performers of the Month for February 2008.
OHL Player of the Month – Steven Stamkos (http://www.ontariohockeyleague.com/stats/player.php?lang_id=en&id=4595), Sarnia Sting
Stamkos was the OHL’s top scorer in February with 13 goals and nine assists for 22 points in 13 games. He enjoyed five multiple point games, including a six point effort (one goal, five assists) against the Saginaw Spirit on February 3 and a five point game (four goals, one assist) on February 8 against the Owen Sound Attack. Stamkos, who turned 18 on February 7, enjoyed a five-game point scoring streak in February that resulted in seven goals and 10 points. The Unionville, ON native is the top rated prospect for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He is seventh in the OHL scoring race with 52 goals and 42 assists for 94 points in 56 games.

Mason was the OHL’s top goalie in February after sporting a 7-1-0-0 record with a 1.37 goals against average and .936 save percentage in eight games. After starting the month with a loss, Mason was summoned to the Columbus Blue Jackets as an emergency recall. He was quickly returned to the Rangers and went on to win his final seven starts in February. He didn’t allow more than two goals in any game last month and held the opposition to one goal on five occasions. Mason is 30-6-1-2 with a 2.50 goals against average and .917 save percentage in 39 games this season.
OHL Rookie of the Month – Eric O’Dell, Sudbury Wolves
O’Dell enjoyed an outstanding first full month in the OHL, scoring eight goals and adding 10 assists for 18 points in 13 games in February. The 17-year-old started the season with Cumberland Jr. A before signing a post secondary scholarship with the Wolves in January. He enjoyed four multiple point games in February, including four point games against the Owen Sound Attack on February 15 (four goals) and February 23 against the Belleville Bulls (one goal, three assists). He has 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points in 22 games this season.

Sanguinetti continued his torrid scoring pace in February by scoring seven goals and adding five assists for 12 points in 12 games. The Lumberton, NJ native turned 20 on February 29. He started the month with a bang, scoring two goals and two assists against the Erie Otters on February 3 and had another two-goal game against the Ottawa 67’s on February 24. The New York Rangers’ prospect leads all OHL blueliners with 26 goals this season. He also has 39 assists and 65 points in 56 games.
