Am I the only fan that feels more confident when the IceDogs have a man in the box compared to when we are on the power play?
I don't have the stats but we must have one of the worst power plays in the league.
When we are short handed the guys skate their butts off and have scored many short handed goals. On the power play, the team slows down, tries to make the perfect pass, usually too many passes. I would need a second or third hand to count the amount of times that we have had the man advantage and not got a shot on net.
While the other teams power plays have become well oiled machines, our power play hasn't changed much from the beginning of the year.

we need more 1 timers on the PP. the passes are too slow and even when they are crisp they don't 1 time it. that allows the opposition to get in the shot blocking lane and the goalie to get in position

we go 1 PP goal yest but it was just sorta lucky that Neuvirth was out to lunch. we didnt score off any set pieces or anything. the PP ranks #11 right now

on the bright side the Pk unit is very strong and we lead the league in shorties

The OHL stats show IceDogs PP ranked 11th. I'ts 10th on the road,15th at home. One of the reasons for this, I think, is the small home ice surface
where, as you say, the boys need to be a lot quicker with their passes.and especially their shots. I think that the modern PP doesn't give a lot of goals from the point, but passing to the point gives an opportunity to jam the crease,so that if the point shot is on the net, there will be a useable rebound.
Maybe, like in football, Dogs should decline the penalty(just kidding) GO DOGS!

They always seem to try and wind up for the big shot, thus allowing the defensive player to get in front of it. Whatabout a good old onetimer not allowing them to get in the way, just getting the puck through to the net where anything could happen on a rebound or a deflection would be better. THe shot doesnt have to be hard just through to the net. They are drivi:eek:ng me crazy on the powerplay...GO DOGS GO

great points rowdi. almost alwyas they use the big wind up. that just telegraphs it and allows the forward to get in the shot block lane from the point. use a lil wrister, get that baby on net, and get the rebound

I think if we could have Swift/Lege/BomberMan up front, and Corrente and Petro on the back, all year long - we'd be waaay up higher as far as PP rank goes. But Legein's been gone for half the year, Corrente for most of the year, so those are 2 key players out of only 5.

So in otherwords, I think we had the POTENTIAL to have a -great- powerplay :)

I find they pass the puck around for 1:55 and then in the last 5 seconds take a shot and the powerplay is over.

I couldn't agree with you more AD! So we need to do more, yesterday was a great example of trying to get more. They had atleast 1 or 2 guys parked in front of the net, plus they crashed all game long.

If the Dogs run into a hot goalie in the playoffs my recommendation is throw big Fletch in front of the net and fire away. They only did this once this year at the end of a game with a 6 on 5 and sure enough he deflected the shot down but one of our guys just couldn't shoot it quick enough. As far as I see it the other team will have a hell of a time moving him and if they get too physical they'll draw a penalty and that's a 5 on 3. Something's got to work!

So true. (but also true during the rest of even strength, hehe)

Heck we beat Oshawa, one of the best in the league, and HOW MANY shots did we fire at them? Coincidence?

They have been working in practice on getting shots of quicker not only on the PP but at full strength. Trying to get the guys to not stop the puck, pause, then shoot or pass.... I am hoping that we will see an improvment soon.

At the start of the year was Legein not on the point with Petro to start the powerplay?

I like Caputi, Swift, Merrett (to screen) and Petro and Legein on the point for the first unit. Then Desousa, Bergeron, Foreman and Schiestel and Corrente (if he comes back) as the second unit. The four at the point all have rockets that actaully hit the net or get through.

He's (Corrente) supposed to be back for the playoffs

powerplay in the third against oshawa.. i think legein, swifty and caputi were out there all two minutes (until caputi made the dumbass move of getting the misconduct - i love the guy's play and goals, but I was surprised he wasn't called on the puck firing alone didnt get the misconduct rather than his mouth)

The Ice Dogs have a powerplay in the physical sense. It's the effectiveness which is not where it could be. With the addition of Legein I think things will look up as well as Corrente. That will give us 2 solid PP lines. I think Legein-Foreman-DeSousa could do some damage on the PP with Corrente because those guys don't mind standing infront of the night and Corrente likes to fire it. Not to knock Swift, Caputi, Pietrangelo and Schiestel they just insist on the perfect play more than just pounding the net with shots and traffic.
