Rick has taken some amazing pictures - would be GREAT to put a them all into a yearbook (some page pictures, some 2 on a page, some 10 on a page, etc).
He must feel terrible right now taking all the photos he does, and they're not being put to use!!!
I'd also like an ICEDOGS 2008-2009 CALENDAR!!! Another great use for photos.
Hopefully whoever's in charge of merchandise will read this thread.

Hey, quit reading my mind................a yearbook has been in the back of my head since the beginning of the season, and hopefully will be doable, just need to get a price first.
As for prices for the images, well yeah they are a tad pricey. I have another photographer who shoots in the league who is a good friend and we try to keep out prices similar. Plus, how can you even put a price on a one of a kind image shot by moi (kidding, such a joke). Just remember, I need to make a living too, I do have a wife kid & house.
On a side note, I am so glad you guys like all the shots from this year, I do have something in the works for next year. To give you an idea, well, lets just say, gallery show + silent auction + big 16" x 20" autographed prints = a one of a kind opportunity

Very neat idea! I would love to see a yearbook filled with bios and photos from the first season. Maybe even some of the fans , I know there are some hilarious ones floating around of Rich B in his crazy bones hard hats and face paint. He was fun to go to the games with

Love your pictures...you are a great photographer! But 25 bucks for 8x10? I think you would make more money buy selling them at a cheaper price and making it up in volume. Just my two cents.

Gotta agree, as much as I like the pictures he takes, $25 for an 8X10 is pricey.
I would buy two for that price, but one, I don't think so.

Actually $25 isn't bad for a professional shot as long as the production of that picture will last a long time. I'm not sure on the photo developement process, but I know that even some of the best digital printers inks will NOT last. So I'm not sure on how to develop digital pictures equivalent to the 'dark room style' of film pictures.
I know that a local photo shop (Fredericks) in St. Catharines charges $10 for them to print an 8x10 photo for you. I print my own. Cost is $1 for the photopaper (Canon Photopaper Pro) and probably a buck in ink. But that ink will NOT last if it's exposed to light for a long time, and of course, the resolution is nowhere near professional. But they're great for me.
But I agree, I won't be able to afford any at $25 a pop. NOT SAYING that's overpriced. Just out of -my- price range (which is low) unfortunately.

So let me break it down for you guys. If each game I spend approximately 5hrs shooting & editing and there are 35 regular season home games that means I work approximately 175 hrs. At minimum wage that would work out to about $1565. From the $25 I charge, $17 I take home. So divide the $1565 by $20 & you get 78. That means I would have to sell 78-8x10's in order to clear minimum wage. If we did the same thing at $10 per print, I bring home $5 and $1565 divided by $5 is 313. So if you guys can promise me that I will sell 300 plus images than I would lower my prices to $10 for an 8x10. So to see if you guys are willing to do this, I am going to be lowering my prices within the next 24 hrs (it's currently 9:25am) for ONE WEEK. If you guys can prove to me that you are serious about purchasing pictures and I see enough sales in the next 7 days, than I may keep my prices at a lower point.
Just some more food for thought. After shooting for the Hamilton Bulldogs for the last 2 years. I think I made a total of 30+ image sales to the public.
Anyways, I just wanted to give you guys an idea of why image prices are high. Yeah, it's great to lower prices and make up for it in bulk, but I just have a feeling the bulk orders won't be there.
GO DOGS GO...Isn't it great to have the OHL back in town.

I'd definitely buy probably 4 or 5 at $10. Maybe more. Heck maybe 10 once I see them framed.
VERY IMPORTANT:
Set up a shopping cart system (just a Paypal BUY NOW button next to a thumbnail that expands to a larger sample would work fine) and sell them online. I would even set up a permanent page on the site. The only problem of course is the work involved (you'd have to give a preview of each photo, and of course - mailing, which you could add to the costs of course).
But even if they're displayed at the shop (we need a bigger shop!) I'd probably pick up at least 4 or 5 tonight. THen another few at the next game, then more throughout the playoffs.
DOH! Nevermind - I just checked it out and you have a shopping cart already :)

From my original post and the disclaimer on my website above each and every photo.
The prices offered are in US dollars, and do not include shipping and handling. Most prints take one to two weeks to be delivered to a Canadian address however in some instances they may take longer
The printing is not done by myself, it is done through an outside source who is directly related to the company that hosts my website. If I did all the printing, you guys would be paying more than $25/print.

Strohs and others who have bought pictures, this might save people some time and lead to more sales. Can you link pictures you've bought for us, specifically action shots of individual players? I'm sure a lot of us are just looking for some good action shots of our favorite players (probably the guys you've just mentioned) and might not want to look through 35 games worth of pictures.

03-13-2008, 04:37 PM
I'm not sure if this is feasible for either Rick or the Dogs, but I like what they do in Buffalo where they have an action shot of each player pre-printed, in bulk, for sale in the gift store. I think this would be particuarly effective for post-game autograph sessions, certainly more memorable than the white cardboard with the RBC logo that they have for autographs. This would probably appeal to both kids and collectors alike. Of course, it would require some overhead to print them out, but might be worthwhile in the longrun. While it eliminates the consumer from making their own choice and getting that 'special picture,' I think that most fans are probably looking for a basic, straightforward action shot of Legein, Dahm, Swift etc. to get signed.

Sounds like a great idea to me...way better than the cardboard sheets they give out now and much more of a collectible for the fans...Could probably be done for a reasonable cost if done in bulk.

Have you seen the quality of the printing? Like, is it 'professionally' done the way a photo studio would do it? Because I want to order a BUNCH of photos all at once to save on the shipping costs (I'd like to go through the entire year and order all the ones I want. Which would probably be 20-30 photos). But I'd like to see a sample of their printing quality before I drop down a few hundred bucks.

To be dead honest, I have never seen the images printed myself though this company. I have had about 200 printed over 2 years and have never once received a complaint on quality from a client. Only thing I have happen is missed deliveries once in a while. This quote is directly from there website though.

I was just scared that a place that pumps out photos in huge lots the way SmugMug does, might just be on regular photo printers instead of a professional process, but we'll see. If they quality is crystal clear with no blurring and deep blacks, I'll order another 20-30 more easy.

That is for me such a memory, that I posted in previous posts about it and it really exemplifies the amazing love affair our forum has with it's players.
That picture should be posted on every team's site as an example to all OHL Fan Clubs!

Not trying to be a smart ass here, I am asking a legit question...Don't the Dogs pay you to be at the games taking pictures? If not, I understand what you are saying and understand the numbers. If they are paying you, then those numbers don't mean anything because you are already at the arena. Selling to the public would be gravy.
Either way...I just purchased 5 pictures @ 10 bucks each. If they were 25$ each, I wouldn't have bought any. I'm not saying they aren't worth the 25 clams, just that I am not prepared to pay that much. I really hope you make some cash, as those pictures are AWESOME. But to reach the magic number of 300, I think you will have to go beyond just posting your info here. Maybe a booth at the rink, I would imagine the photos would fly of the shelves there.

I agree a very small percentage of the fans actually come on here or know about this website. You bring this to a booth at the game and Im sure youll have parents buying them for their kids like crazy, and with the amount of kids at each game I don't think you'd have a problem getting to 300!

I can guarantee you that MOST people who go to the games no NOTHING about this site. That's why I was trying to get people before to help boost the ranking in google (it's down at like the *5th page!* if you do a search for niagara icedogs). But thruthfully, I don't know if the forum could handle many more posts than we're already getting! Of course, more VIEWS for each msg is always a good thing. But we've only JUST passed the 600 members mark and that's like 7 MONTHS after the site's been up. So yah, nobody really knows about the site except word of mouth and people close to the action. Even the home page only gets about 400 visits per day on average (which is the reason NEXT season I'm not going to be doing all the videos, moving the pictures over, etc... it will be a BREATH of fresh AIR not spending hours every day doing that all next year :) )

I talked with Rick today and he said there is going to be a table at Thursday's game with prints available!!
Actually I am gonna have to renege on that for another week. Unfortunately my friend who would be doing this will be away all weekend so we will not be able to set up a table. Soon though I PROMISE.

To be dead honest, I have never seen the images printed myself though this company. I have had about 200 printed over 2 years and have never once received a complaint on quality from a client. Only thing I have happen is missed deliveries once in a while. This quote is directly from there website though.
AND AND AND ON A BIG HUGE SIDE NOTE...................

The Inogural Season
That's will be the title of the yearbook, so now here comes the tough part, three choices to make, so if someone on the boards wants to post the following poll on the home page that would be great.
I need to know what size you all want for the yearbook?
1. 13" x 11" hardcover album @ $70.00 usd
2. 10" x 8" hardcover @ $40.00 usd
3. 10" x 8" softcover @ $25.00 usd
(Inogural is spelt wrong - it should be inaugural - I'm assuming someone would have caught that, LOL)
