I signed up for "B-2 on demand tonight. You access it through an A H L teams home page. The sound is not bad bur video is pretty broken up. Watched the third period and the overtime between Hersey And Wilkes Barre Scranton. I didn't hear Luca's name so don't know if they even dressed him tonight. You can also get the Crunch games on this network if you want to follow Legion. It cost me $7.00, I hope I get more than one period for the money.

lol No kidding! $7.00 is steep for bad feed. I think ILL and I are hitting up Scranton next season (OR just Hamilton when he comes to town lol) OR MAYBE GO SEE A GAME IN SCRANTON WHERE THE CRUNCH ARE PLAYING!!! Or Vice Versa! Sound good ILL?

I saw that! I was keeping an eye on the score and Scranton won in OT 2-1 over the Hershey Bears. I checked the game sheet but I didn't see Luca's name. Think I might pay the $7 too!

Maybe he changed his mind and he is coming back to Niagara cause he misses me!:001_tongue:

I dont think Luca will be playing anytime soon in WBS. according to a Pens message board they have plenty of forwards higher up on the depth chart. Caputi is more up for the practices and to get a feel of what a playoff run in the AHL is all about. This is basically a head start for next season. The Pens did the same thing with Ryan Malone and he played like 3 games i think and made the team the following season.

I read that too, IGT. Great for Luca though that he is going to get a taste and get some valuable experience. He deserves to go the distance. What a great kid!:001_wub:

HERSHEY — At first glance, it might seem like the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins would be irritated that they had to start the playoffs on the road Wednesday night in Hershey.

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=4 align=right border=0><TBODY><TR><TD><SCRIPT language=JavaScript1.1 src="http://bannerads.zwire.com/bannerads/bannerad.asp?ADLOCATION=4000&PAG=461&BRD=2185&LOCALPCT=100&AREA=495&VERT=11053&NAREA=471&AT=JS&barnd=4356"></SCRIPT><SCRIPT language=JavaScript><!-- if (parseFloat(navigator.appVersion) == 0) { document.write('<IFRAME width="" MARGINWIDTH=0 MARGINHEIGHT=0 HSPACE=0 VSPACE=0 FRAMEBORDER=0 SCROLLING=no BORDER="0" BORDERCOLOR="#000000" SRC="http://bannerads.zwire.com/bannerads/bannerad.asp?ADLOCATION=4000&PAG=461&BRD=2185&LOCALPCT=100&AREA=495&VERT=11053&NAREA=471&AT=IF&barnd=3950"></iframe>'); } //--> </SCRIPT><NOSCRIPT></NOSCRIPT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>As East Division champions, the Penguins earned home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Part of that advantage usually includes playing Game 1 at home.

But because of a scheduling conflict at the Wachovia Arena, the Penguins had to visit the Giant Center on Wednesday night before hosting the next two games of the series Saturday and Sunday.

So were the Penguins cursing their luck before the game began Wednesday night?

“No. Not at all,” coach Todd Richards said. “Last year, we started at home against Norfolk and they won that game. I think that sometimes, when you start on the road, you feel that the odds are against you and you’re a little more focused. As the home team, sometimes you relax a little more.”

Reinforcements

Two major reinforcements are expected to join the Penguins on amateur tryout contracts by the end of the week.

Luca Caputi, Pittsburgh’s fourth-round pick in the 2007 draft, joined the Penguins after his Niagara club was eliminated from the Ontario Hockey League playoffs. A goal-scoring winger, he had 51 goals and 111 points in 66 regular-season games.

Keven Veilleux, a second-round pick in 2007, came to the Penguins after Rimouski was eliminated from the Quebec Major Junior Hocey League playoffs. A lanky center, he had 17 goals and 64 points in 61 regular-season games.

Caputi, 19, is expected to sign a standard entry-level contract and turn pro next season. Veilleux, 18, still has a year of junior eligibility left.

Postseason experience

Penguins goalie John Curry played his first professional playoff game Wednesday night, but it was far from his first high-pressure game.

Curry went 1-3 in NCAA tournament games in college at Boston University.

He said he prefers the pro postseason.

“It was different in college. I feel like it was more pressure because even if you had a good regular season, you could lose one game and be done,” Curry said. “It was almost unfair to a certain extent, where rarely do you see the best team win the national championship. Here, over a seven-game series, generally the best team will come out.”

Yah, I was thinking about putting up an alumni section right after all the Legein talk started, but then I'd have to add Alumni Talk and Alumni News, and there's already more forums than I'd like to have (I don't like those big boards that have like 30 different forums on them).

I'll figure something out later on today.

its an amateur tryout contract and AD i think your right it probably has something to do with finances being less. I also think it has to do with the fact an entry-level pro-contract is 3 years so they want to see how he does before they lock him in

Its expected that he will sign a professional contract next week. I dont know the reason for going about it this way (could it be they are still negoitiating the terms and $$ of his entry level professional contract?), actaully it seems a bit screwy to me, but I do not know how these things are done.

Luca's NHL.com profile: http://penguins.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=PlayerDetail&playerId=8473997

Excerpt from that article above :

CAPUTI EMERGES FOR NIAGARA

Luca Caputi
Caputi, a fourth-round pick (111th overall), garnered the most headlines. He finished fourth in the OHL with 111 points (51+60) in 66 regular-season games for Niagara. He established franchise records with the 51 goals and 111 points. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound left winger had 17 points (8+9) in 10 playoff games for the IceDogs. He finished his junior career with 185 points (86+99) in 214 games.

“Statistically, he certainly had a great year. He and Dustin Jeffrey probably had the best years statistically of that class. Time will tell who will turn out to be the best pro,” Fletcher said. “Certainly, Luca is a player who has the ability to handle the puck and make smart decisions offensively. He also has the ability to grind it out on wall and use his size to play effectively in traffic. He’s an intriguing prospect. He’s a kid who has the attributes, in terms of skill and work ethic and grit, to succeed at the pro level. He could turn out to be as good as anyone from that draft class, which is a credit to our scouting staff for finding a player like that in the fourth round.”

Thanks IGT.

Anyone know what's up with the NAME of that team? Wilkes-Barre/Scranton !?? What's THAT all about?

In interesting note : the assist Caputi got was on ex NHL tough guy Dennis Bonvie's goal :D hehe

Funny that a sniper like Luca was playing on a line with a guy who lead the AHL in penalty minutes like 2 years in a row, and had the most PIMs per game in the NHL one year (I believe when he as on the Oilers). Hah.

Speaking of prospects rising, a huge goal from Luca Caputi to make it 2-2. Great effort by the kid. Deflecting a Mark Letestu centering pass over Frederic Cassivi while sliding on his stomach down the slot? Can't teach that either.

I've been following the River Rats since they have 3 former Generals playing for them (Brandon Nolan, Jamie Johnson, & Trevor Gillies), and I have yet to see Nolan in the lineup.

I've been following the WBS team as well. Specifically for former General Chris Minard, however, I will admit that I've been watching to see how Luca's doing as well. Along with Legein in Syracuse.

WILKES-BARRE TWP. – Luca Caputi was a 4-year-old growing up in Toronto when Dennis Bonvie began his professional hockey career.
Yet there was Caputi on the ice at Wachovia Arena on Friday night, celebrating with the all-time penalty minutes leader in the American Hockey League.
Celebrating a win – and a night he’ll never forget.
Playing in only his second AHL game, the 19-year-old scored a goal and assisted on a Bonvie goal with just 15 seconds remaining as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins romped to a 7-3 win against Hershey.
The Pittsburgh prospect says he’ll never forget Bonvie’s reaction.
“He hugged me like I was his own kid,” said Caputi. “It was a tremendous feeling. Words can’t describe how I felt. The place was so loud and he was so happy. It was unbelievable.”
The win allowed the Penguins to clinch the best-of-seven series 4-1.
“It was an unbelievable night,” said Caputi, who signed an amateur tryout contract with the Penguins just 10 days ago. “I heard a lot about Wilkes-Barre and how great the fans are. It seemed like the roof was going to shake every time we scored a goal or did something positive.”
Caputi did something positive in the second period, taking a pass from teammate Mark Letestu in front of the Hershey goal and slapping an unbalanced shot past Bears goalkeeper Frederic Cassivi. The goal tied the score 2-2 and gave the Penguins momentum they would carry to the final horn.
“I was trying to beat the man next to me and someone almost knocked me over,” said Caputi. “I was kind of falling when I slapped the puck. It took a good bounce. I’ll take it.”
Despite his early success in scoring points, Caputi says that’s not his role as the Penguins continue their march to the Calder Cup.
“It felt great to get my first (AHL) goal,” he said. “I guess it takes some weight off my shoulders. But my role isn’t to score goals right now. It’s to provide energy and work hard when I get on the ice. That’s what I’m going to try to do down the stretch.”
Caputi was an offensive machine while playing for the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League during the regular season. He recorded 111 points (51 goals, 60 assists) in 66 games played to rank fourth in league scoring. Caputi also played in 10 playoff games, recording eight goals and nine assists before the IceDogs were eliminated in the second round of the OHL playoffs.
Caputi was caught a little off guard – but not shocked – when he received the telephone call to report to Wilkes-Barre.
“I wasn’t too surprised. I guess they felt it was time that I could make the jump,” he said. “I’m going to work hard every day here. This is a learning experience, I know that.
“I’m glad to be here. This is a great bunch of guys. They’ve made me feel part of the team since the first practice.”

If you have the video you can post it here too (just attach it to a post). YouTube's easy. Just register your account, then you just click on the yellow UPLOAD button. AFter it uploads it will tell you the URL (link) to the file.

Hope so but I doubt it. If the Marlies were in then it would've been on Leafs tv. I'm gonna see if I can find out somehow...
