Mayers is an upgrade offensively and defensive. Sorry, but Kilger stays out of Toronto
so much for them not signing anyone 30+ like they said their plan was,
oh well, typical leafs action there.

Mayers is a good pick-up. I don't know what you guys are talking about. Were you all expecting a team of 20 year olds?

The Leafs need grit in a big way - I think Mayers can bring this to the team. Tucker is slowing down in a big way - good pickup.

fletcher did say that, so yes i figured they would be all under 30

At first I was really not into this trade at all. The more I think about it the more I don't really mind it as much. Fletcher let out an interesting statistic and he said only 10% of 3rd rounders ever go on to play over 30 games in the NHL. So I went back and looked at the 3rd rounds over the years and aside from the few sleepers that every draft has he was right. Then again we could possibly grab one of those sleepers but the chance of that happening would be pretty low.

Jamal Mayers was a good pickup. What do the Leafs need most besides scoring? GRIT. Jamal Mayers brings exactly that, with great speed. He kills penalties, and has a good faceoff win percentage. Plus he puts some points up on the board. If the Leafs pick up a heavyweight, then whoever that would be along with Jamal Mayers and Benny Ondrus would make a perfect 4th line.

Yep, right now any heavyweight wanting to show off can have his way with the Leafs. With Belak gone they definitely need a top heavyweight. Not just _a_ heavyweight, they need a top contender in order to keep the majority of the fans excited during this rebuilding era.
