The NHL reportedly bumped up the salary cap to $50.3M (up from around $45M).

This would be great if the Leafs were in a position where they had some young superstars they needed to sign and keep on the team. But.. they don't.

They've locked up McCabe and Kaberle, Tucker. Signed Sundin to another year. They're overpaying McCabe and Kubina right now as it is, so once they finally get out of those contracts that'll be more cap money freed up.

And like I said before.. they couldn't win it in the last 40 year without a cap of any kind, so bumping the current cap up a bit, ain't gonna do squat.

It's time to clean house! Pick *5 guys* who you can't do without, keep them, and clean everyone else out. Of course this is feasibly and contractually impossible. But it's what they need.
