What a game!

The IceDogs opened the scoring early in the game, which as been a rarity at home this preseason (hadn't happened yet actually). Then the goals kept coming, and coming. Plymouth eventually showed it's frustration with the massive amount of early penalties they took, but having their GOON (anyone who watched the guy could see he had only one purpose for being in the roster) #30, 6'7" 222lb Mike Yovanic after our star defenceman Alex Peitrangelo. This is when all hell broke loose. Players squared off throwing punches, the 2000+ in attendance were on their feet going wild, then Foreman jumps in join the action (got ejected for it though, but it's great to see him jump right back into the action after coming back from the Oilers camp). When the dust settled a bunch of players were ejected from the game, and the player benches were MUCH more roomy. Eventually the IceDogs pummeling of the Whalers got to their coach, who was also ejected from the game for his antics, much to the joy of the home crowd. The IceDogs ended up with a 10-1 win, the only bad point of the game being the Plymouth goal late in the 3rd period, erasing our hope for a shutout. Mississauga is supposedly our rival this year, but after tonight, mark the Plymouth games on your calendars! Pictures here: http://forum.icedogfans.com/showthread.php?t=319

Yovanic played (by my count) one shift in the first, and that was only 18 mins into the period. He was clearly sent onto the ice by the coach to instigate a brawl. I dont think Foreman came off the bench. He got a Third Man In penalty. I think Gismondi is the one that came off the bench. The Whalers coach should have been ejected in the second at the time of the brawl. As I said, it was pretty clear he directied his team to try to kick our guys A**es.

Our guys were really winded in the third as we only had 5 skaters on the bench due to ejections and injuries. I hope Beregeron is ok. It would be a big loss if he is gone for an extended period of time. Swift and Beregeron work very very well together.

Does anybody know what the mandatory suspensions are for being third man in and for leaving the bench?

re: Foreman

Thanks - I meant jumped in 3rd man. Don't know why my fingers typed "off the bench". (that's the problem when I think too far ahead of myself :D

Jadran Beljo was announced as a scratch before the game.
Probably one of the few PA announcements I could actually make out during this game.

My wife couldn't understand anything that was said and we were sitting right under one of the speakers. More tweaking to come, I guess.

BTW...it looked to me like #30 Mike Yovanic of Plymouth (in his limited ice time) was out there to do nothing more than take out Pietrangelo and wasn't taking NO for an answer.
If the coach did send him out for that purpose then he should be suspended. Gotta prove it, I know but it sure looked that way.

Of the 3 games we've seen so far, this was by far the one I would've liked to see a replay of.
So wouldn't you know it, Cogeco doesn't broadcast this one. Figures.

Yah those speakers were probably set up for when the ceiling was still in. It just echos so much now that you can't make out anything being said. They either need to be pointed differently, or they need some kind of sound dampening material put on the roof, because it's just all echos whenever anyone is talking on the PA.

Funny though...last year during Jr.B games you could hear it OK and with no drop ceiling. I mean, it didn't sound fantastic or anything but at least you could understand what was being said. This year the echo is unbelievable. What happened?

I dont have many complaints about the venue other than not being able to hear the PA. I had a difficult time making out the penalties when they are announced, who scored the goal etc.

As for #30...I hope the league looks at both him and the coach when they hand out the suspensions that are sure to come. There is no doubt in my mind that he was sent out there to instigate the brawl.

You could clearly see Pietrangelo trying to get away from the fight and the guy just latched on and kept going. Our guy gets thrown out for defending himself...

I am so pissed that I couldn't go to this game! (wife wouldn't let me, lol, well, thats not the only reason, but anyways, I digress!) I listed to the first period on the radio, then turned it off and went to sleep, as I was exhausted, then heard the 10-1 score in the morning...WOW....

I simply cannot wait any longer for the season to start!

I was at the season ticket holder meet and greet, and the owner Bill Burke came up and shook my hand and thanked me for his support, super nice guy, looks like we have a kick ass team, this week is going to go by soooooooooooo slowly!

LOL, well, I should explain

I played ice hockey tuesday night, I went to the Rush concert in London on Wednesday night, stayed over, worked thursday, went to the meet and greet, then, had ice hockey friday night.

so, I figure, I will just save my "go out and play" tickets, for the season opener!

The meet and greet was great. We got there at 5, lined up for our ticket booklets (we also got a couple of license plate frames as a gift)and then went to the IceDogs shop. Bought a couple of the black sweaters then got in line and met most of the guys on the team. We were a bit disappointed that Swiftie wasnt there, we were told he was in the building but must have left the meet and greet early to prep for the game (which is very understandable). Had a few words with most of the guys, talked to the coaches then had a great conversation with Bill Burke. He is an exciting person to talk with. With his enthusiasm at the top, it is sure to trickle down throughout the entire organization. He told us the drop down screens will be in place by friday for the home opener. They also gave us tickets for one free hot dog or sausage and a drink. Really that was about it.

Its too bad that you missed it. Hopefully you will be able to make it to the next meet and greet, as I understand that there will be more during the season.

Thank god theres more. I was pretty bummed out. Who do you think the most social player was. So far I have talked to a few over the computer and Lobsinger is a really good guy. Did you hear anything interesting from the players? Get any pictures?

They were all pretty socialable. There was one or two that you could tell didnt want to be there (I wont name names)... The only thing I heard that was interesting is that Josh Day said he would be playing if it were the playoffs and that Lobsinger is on track for an Oct return.

Coach said he thinks the Canadians will sign Loverock then return him to the Dogs sometime next week. Really that was about it. There was a pretty long line up for the players so didnt want to take up too much of their time.

Do you mean Day is out until playoffs?

WellandDogsFan

No, No. What he meant was that if it the playoffs right now he would be playing. Since its only preseason he was taking it easy. He is going to skate with the team tomorrow and will be in the lineup Friday night unless he is re-injured.
