wow... can see some people on this board haven't changed...

howard played a game last week, if you wanted your howard fix, should have went to the game to see him play.

I like the kid, talk to him a few times a week, I think he will bring some toughness to the team, but I also think he needs to work his way into the line-up just like other players have had to do.

I'm sure he will play again, but give it a rest already, you guys sound like a 7 year old girls going nuts for the backstreet boys.

hey I saw the Backstreet Boys TWICE and I was 30!!! :lol2:

Don't judge:D

We didn't know you were a Backstreet Boys fan - thats your business. As for Howard, peoples frustration has more to do with Bessenov being cut, not lighting it up in Jr A and getting called up to play 2 games - makes no sense from a hockey perspective. I'll leave it at that - now go listen to your Backstreet Boys.

'Just starting up a thread to house off-topic posts so good threads that are on a specific topic, that go off topic to the point of ruining the original discussion... can be moved here. :)

(This WAS the first post in the thread but the stupid script knocked it down once I moved other posts in it).

Is that why you have your own board that nobody goes to?

Some of us have jobs where we can't follow the team around the province.

I frequently purchase their triple grande extra hot non fat lattes, yes. I also buy their tea which isn't overpriced and their regular coffee which is also not overpriced and tastes like coffee instead of the dishwater that hortons sells:D

Plus I go for the atmosphere, to hang with my friends.....just my opinion so leave it alone...thanks

Agreed!

Even the code of conducts state - it's perfectly fine to argue facts with someone. Just don't argue someone's right to post their hockey opinions. If anyone has a personal beef with a point made, PMs is the only place to discuss it. If anyone thinks a tasteless remark has been made, by ALL MEANS give them negative rep points, but please everyone, DO NOT give negative reps just because you disagree with their opinion.

Prior to Valiquette's meltdown in the 3rd period he posted 5 straight periods of shutout hockey vs the Leafs. Regardless of that, scoring 5 unanswered in that time span against one the league's best defensive teams is impressive.

Yah that was embarassing. Right in the middle of the biggest wine-making area of Canada and they were promoting foreign wine. Ouch. :18:

I'm sure one of the, what.. 70+ wineries in the area, would love to have their product featured. I read an article somewhere, that out of the 110 or so wineries in Canada, 70-80 were right here in Niagara.

Maybe in our new rink they can have an actual wine center like they do in Zehrs and other supermarkets promoting local stuff :D

What's funny is Pillitteri Estates Winery is owned by Friesens grandfather (and my cousin, for that matter) Alex's mother is a Pillitteri, so she would probably love to see their wine served there.

Or ANY wine from the area, AGREED!

Can't count out your Leafs, Rio. They seem to be surprising a lot of people

Just proves how pathetic the management's team strategy is. They try for decades to build a competing team and can't even get into the playoffs most of the time. The one year they come out and admit they're going to dwell in the basement because it's a rebuilding year, the do better than the years they tried to compete.

Goes to show yah a bunch of comatosed monkies could run this team just as competitively as the presidents/gms of previous years.

Crap, wrong thread again. I'll have to move this post too :D

VQA ALL THE WAY!

I am not sure about that .... The wine is way over priced I have quit buying it.

It shouldnt cost what it does.. the grapes are grown down the street...from the stores.. which means less fuel upon delivery.... and they pay their slaves from Jamaica, Mexico and other poor countries like 7/hr an hr.... shame on them...
Yet it still costs in most cases double of what other wines cost...
Shame on VQA wineries.

That is so not true. You can find VQA wines for $10-15...
QUALITY ones at that...
where the heck are you buying yours from?
also, please understand that those other countries are giving huge subsidies for their providers. we just recently got an excise tax reduction for our growers... and even that was challenged by the world trade organization.
they are not able to compete under the same conditions.
I think we get good value and need to support our homegrown.

I wouldn't pay a cent for close to 1/4 of the seats in the Jack. The visitors side has far too much glass to look through. I couldn't even imagine trying to watch the game from behind the penalty box. Some of those seats you're looking through 2 or 3 plains of marked up glass with dividers to see the net.

I sit on the visitor's side but I have one of the best seats in the house - center ice, above the glass, so there's nothing but air between me and most of the play.

BUT.. in year 1, I DID sit behind the penalty glass once, and WOW... it was absolutely brutal. You're trying to watch the game behind 2-3 panes of scuffed up glass with the view being distorted depending on what angles you're looking through.

Actually in year 1 I almost bought seasons and initially I wanted to be RIGHT behind our bench. Wisdom clicked in at the last moment, reminding me I'd be behind a coaching staff that was standing the whole time, AND watching the entire game through glass.

So now, I'm right next to a different team every week and get to see our guy's faces across the ice instead of the backs of their heads. Best seat in the house :)

Heck, if the Dogs are going back to traditional hockey (ie: organist), lets lose the glass entirely - Go back to chain fencing around the sides :D :D In the movie The Rocket (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460505/) I think the old time rinks with fencing instead of glass looked amazing :) Of course, not so great if you're behind the fence and need to watch the play on an angle down the ice. Only good straight-forward.

I'm stuck with one of the seats on the penalty box side. I basically watch the screens when the play is at the other end of the ice. But I'd rather have half the ice through a brick wall than have the nets to look through -- some get used to them and can see alright, I'm just not one of them. I sure wish I was, as someone who always preferred high corners, it's changed how I watch the game and I've never seen it as well. High side (between the top of the circles to avoid netting) is my preferred spot now, but when I moved here, nothing like that was available.

I hope the new arena design recognizes the end seats have become harder to sell and put more rows on the side, less on the ends, like Barrie. There's about 17 rows on one side (less on the other because of luxury boxes, but still 10-12) and 6 or 7 on the ends. That's a big part of the attendance success there IMO.

Personally I'm not a big fan of those rinks that have just walls at the ends, and the seating in the middle. It makes it look so small-league Kiwanis'y. Instead of a thicker twine with more space between it, I'd switch to a finer mesh. Something with really thin material that is more sheer.

hockeyfan
02-05-2011, 03:59 PM
Barrie has a few rows of seats on the end, it actually looks pretty good. But by putting more seats on the sides, they get the top seats higher and steeper (that's where I sit when I'm in Barrie, view is amazing!) There's a restaurant at one end and a club lounge above it, so it doesn't look unfinished, it's glassed in areas as opposed to solid walls. The other end has a glass protected wheelchair area (before the nets, the glass was their protection). It looks pretty good, actually, I think it's a lot better than the sea of empty seats I saw in Oshawa last night. 4,000-plus in a 5,300 seat arena, but the one end was basically empty above the glass line.

I find it really doesn't matter for me...any kind of net makes the seats a no-go. But I agree totally with you! Your suggestion is what I have said for years. It'd be more like a screen door than a chain-link fence, and I think most people find a screen door easier to see through of those two options. I'd rather we go back to the wood sticks and take the nets down -- a little slower shot and a little better view! I know it won't happen, but it's just so frustrating when you go up to a box office, there's thousands of seats available, but I can't see anything from any of them.
