Usually you'll hear a player yell out all sorts of obscenities to get another player off his game, or you'll hear players calling names, etc.. .but an actual threat of killing someone, this is new to me!
Only from Windsor eh :weird:

You obviously havent played hockey in a comptetive league as a young adult or adult.... Its very common to yell " im gonna kill you" at someone else to intimidate someone ... espeacially after someone has elbowed you in the head and almost knocked your block off..
get real people! this is hockey ... have you been living under a rock?
a fan is a different story though .. but it is very common to hear that on the ice from one player to another.

Hey, gotta agree here. Like I said earlier in another thread, I once motioned with my thumb over my throat to another player. You are not going to literally kill the person, its as Canuck said; intimitdation. Half of the game is intimidation. If you get in to another player's head, that guy is done for the game. I honestly can't believe that this whole I'm going to kill you has gotten this much attention. Its not a Windson thing people, its a hockey thing. I'm sure Shaw does his fair bit of trash talking and taunting; maybe hasn't said those words, but something along those lines.

good point. ya very dramaric thread title. hockey is not a fairy tale world boys and girls. emotions run high and and the kids don't all play nice all the time. i think "i'm going to kill you" falls under the category trash talk/chirping.

It sounded like it came from a fan which is different than from a player. If it did come from the stands, it should be taken seriously. Unfortunately, there are enough crazies out there to warrant being paranoid.
I agree with blackjeep. If it's a player, you can "write it off" to the heat of the moment and tell the player "be a little smarter next time with your choice of words". If it's a fan, that's a totally different matter, and the fan should be ejected immediately.

I think that for anyone who thinks that the threat issued against Petro was acceptable or even normal, then I think you need to wake up and smell the roses. In todays society, this behaviour is definitely NOT TOLERATED and thankfully steps are being taken all the time to stamp out this idiotic mindset. Years ago you could joke about having a bomb or a gun as you were going through the border or on a plane however today...even if you were totally joking and laughing while you said it, It would be a matter of minutes before the police or security would be all over you and you would be getting escorted away. Too many tragic events have occured over the years that no-one will take the chance that this threat is not real. I played semi professional sports for over ten years (soccer not hockey) and in that timeframe I may have been threatened with a smack in the mouth or someone would break my leg or be put out of action for a while but NEVER once was I uttered a death threat. Trash talk or chirping is definitely part of the game but some things overstep the boundaries and this is one of them. I may be an older gentleman but I believe that many others feel the same way as I do. I guess we all have the right to have our own opinions.

One you can't compare the heat of the moment on a soccer field, to the heat of the moment on the ice. Hockey is far more physical. Sometimes you take that hit (heck in many cases it was clean), but you want to pount the s**t out of the guy, because of the sheer force of the hit. Secondly, to compare a comment in an airport to something said by 2 combatants in a physical game is way off base. If the very nature of that comment scares you, then maybe you should stay in doors. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but hockey is very physical. Heck, we don't condone fighting in the streets, but you can do it on the ice. Things happen in hockey, but in most cases never get out of control. I can assure that Petro's life is not in jeaopardy; you can now sleep at night.

thats a good point. but even if it was a fan, if it was a highschool kid the same age as petro i would feel that to be more acceptable than a grown man yelling that at a teenager in petro. either way if it was a fan probably not the best thing to yell

I have to agree here. It did sound like it came out of the stands and that is going too far. I also agree with some that intimidation is part of the game, but it should stay on the ice not get to the fans in the stands. If it was a fan, whats next if Windsor gets to the Memorial Cup. Are they going to bring guns to the arena? Might sound a little out there, but it is Windsor. We saw what their fans are like when they played us at the Jack.:weird:

Sparky, please say you haven't gone soft on me!!!!!!!!! (hehehe). I guess for once we finally disagree, oh wait we also disagree on London (hehehe). Talk to you later buddy, see you at the rink.
PS: Off topic here, but how about a standing O for Johnny Cullen on Sunday.
(I know Sparky, you're getting a kick out of this)

You OBVIOUSLY don't know me - I played hocked from the time I was 5 yrs old. And you obviously haven't read any of my comments on ths whole thing. I already said it was no big deal, but that the league might not see it that way since they suspend guys for the neck-slice gesture.

I fully agree. I don't think the league should do anything about it. I'm sure it went unheard anyway so they don't even know about it. But as I said in other posts... why do they suspend people for the neck-slicing gesture when it means the same thing? They should just allow all of it.
I guess, then again.. ...they're not all adults in this league, and you can't have the same rules for minors as adults.

I remember in pre-season at the beginning of last year, Gismondi got into a fight, and after a fight did the neck-slice gesture, and got suspended for it. I guess the league probably sees the "I'm gonna cut your throat" gesure worse than literally saying "I'm going to kill you" :weird:
Oh well who cares... it's obviously not an issue with the league so lets just let it slide. WE're making an issue out of something that's not an issue me thinks.

That's only best used when you're quoting multiple people saying the same thing :) If I quoted 3 different msgs about different things, then someone ELSE quoted MY msg, I'd have no idea what part of my msg they were replying to :P :P :P Since I was replying to 3 different people saying different things, it was best IMO to keep them separated. ;)
SO shattap - and buy my car :p Oops sorry, off topic.
