Superstitions

Since I was younger, I have always been superstitious, especially playing sports. While playing baseball at a very high level during my high school years, my superstitions grew. I would wear the same sliding shorts, put my uniform on a certain way, eat a certain food before each game etc.

My question is, how many of us are still superstitious? I just realized that I am still very superstitious..intellectually I know its silly, but our (atleast my) superstitions give us comfort from the time we are playing to later in life when we are no longer playing but watching others play the sports we once excelled in.

The reason this is coming up now is that I have both an IceDogs home and away sweater. The dogs are 0-2-1 when I am wearing my white sweater but they are 2-0 (these numbers include exhibition games) while I am wearing my black sweater. After yesterdays game, I think it may be a long time before I wear my white sweater again.

I to am like that at times...to a point... Over the years I have learned that it's about routine...if a certain routine makes your mind at ease...and makes you belive something than you continue to do it a certain way... I see that in my son now when he plays hockey... things have to be done a certain way...order of getting dressed...order of skates being tied etc... is it routine or is it superstitions... that I have no answer to... but if it works and makes one at ease about himself...all the power ta ya...
There are a ton of sports people that have routines/superstitions... just show up to the arena's/fields early enough and you will see it.

Being a former goaltender (the most superstitious of all positions I would say) I still have it in me as a photographer. I always have to have a coffee on the way to the rink, I always set my equipment up in the same order, always like to shoot the same end for the first 2 periods and then the opposite end in the third, always take the same route to the arena, silly I know but hey it works, most of the time.

Eh i've been superstitious when I swam I would always listen to the same song before a race, but only because I enjoyed the song...other then that i've never really been into that stuff.

What superstitions do you have as fans? Like me for instance. I wont be wearing my white sweater for awhile becuase they have yet to win a game while I was wearing it. So I'll be wearing my black sweater from now on.

None as of yet for the IceDogs.

But for the Leafs I only drink coffee on came days out of my Leafs coffee mug.

Yesterday was the first game I forgot to buy a roster sheet for (forgot my wallet in car) so that might have had something to do with it. Then again I got one for all the preseason games and they only won once :D

i would do something like that but i cant spend that much money on merchandise so i will just wear my icedogs shirt everygame.

I hear you.. I got them only because they are early Christmas and Birthday presents lol
