BLUE JACKETS TRADE LEGEIN TO FLYERS FOR RATCHUK

The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded 20-year old forward Stefan Legein to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for defenceman Michael Ratchuk.

Legein was an alternate captain for Canada's World Junior team and won gold at the 2008 tournament, but surprised the hockey world in August, 2008 when he announced that he was quitting hockey at the age of 19. Legein cited having lost his passion to play the game as the reason. By December of last year, he changed his mind, resumed skating, and eventually joined Columbus' AHL affiliate in Syracuse.

This season in the AHL, Legein has scored two goals and one assist in six games. Legein was originally a second-round choice (37th overall) of the Blue Jackets in the 2007 draft.

Ratchuk, 21, has also been playing in the AHL with the Flyers' affiliate in Adirondack. He was selected by Philadelphia in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2006 draft.

Hopefully things work out for him in Philadelphia. His style of play would seem to be well suited to the way Philly has always tried to build there teams.

i wonder if we'll hear anything else about this? I think Philly has more depth then Columbus... so i cant see this being better for Legein..

A change of scenery might be the best thing for him.
