My thoughts exactly. one can clearly see the hyphons between the 9 and the 1 and the other 1. I wonder if it was our fans or visiting team fans... betcha it was some Saginaw fans...

I always thought the number referred to what do you see when you see a mean dog that is loose? you call 9*1*1. I dont see a problem with the number but I would wager the number will be changed because some people have complained

i hope not... let the poll dictate...everyone views it as 911 as in emergency not 9eleven as in sept 11...
bunch of horse crap.... people need to worry about attending the games and supporting the team and not what god damn number the mascot wears and what it means to them... sorry...but i'm pissed about this one.

And she is available on game nights as well. I always stop by and say hi to both her and Bill.

So, as fans of the team, lets either email her or talk with her at the game on thursday to show our support for not only the Burke's and the team but for Bones as well!

Any publicity is good publicity ... but in this case, I'd I recommend they change the # to K-9 just to avoid future problems. Don't give people a reason to complain ...

The last thing you want is protesters at the front doors before games handing out flyer's regarding violence and Sept. 11... This could have the potential to garner negative news coverage in the Hamilton and GTA markets. Negative publicity that can easily be avoided.

I agree with you but I mean anyone who goes to that much trouble to make a scene over a MASCOT!! It's a MASCOT for the love of Gordie Howe! How can a guy dancing around in a dog suit cause offense to anyone? He's not sleeping with your wife, he's not spouting off colour jokes, he's not beating your kid!!! People love to complain, but I think we should pick our battles, this is being overanalyzed if someone is taking this dog as anti-american propaganda. Woooow! I don't know how many people it took for Denise to post that but I mean if you want to complain about something pick something else!! Ok rant over. In all actuality I don't care what number the dog is I just find it ridiculous that anyone would actually read that as 9/11 and not 9-1-1.

For all we know, it can be a community group from Mississauga trying to stir trouble. If this is the only negative publicity we will have to deal with this year - change the number and get on with it.

There will ALWAYS be people who complain --- what bad can they say once we change the number? For a few stitches and the letter 'K', I think it is worth our while to just roll over and bite our tongues on this one.

Regardless of who complained or the reason why, obviously some arent comfortable with the product we have out there. and thats ok. Not everyone is going to love what the IceDogs are doing, on or off the ice. I call it the 10% rule... in any population there will always be 10% that ruin it for everyone else. If some take umbrage with the number then we should change it. but make sure that people know the reason why and that the club took swift action to prevent misinterpratations.

I know it upsets some of us as we know what the number represents. but not everyone sees it the same way as we do.

What they 'should' do is retire the sweater and auction the jersey off with proceeds benefiting the 9/11 Children's Fund... That will demolish the complainers!

Maybe they should change the entire telephone emergency number for that matter. Emergency services must be disrespecting the Sep.11 trajedies by continuing to use 911 right?

Playing devils advocate here. I am from the States. Been here in Canada since 3 weeks after 9/11. We Americans do refer to the events of Sept 11th in one of three ways:
Sept 11th
9/11
9-11

Alright, I'm not all about scandals LOL BUT, either the IceDogs.net website got a HUGE number of hits between 5-7pm, or someone is deleting cookies and continuously voting for 9-1-1... Or, I am just reading into things way too much lol...

Regardless, 911 has over 200 votes and K-9 hasn't moved all that much. Maybe it is popular? Seemed neck and neck all day though.

Ah well... Looks like they won't be changing the number after all ... "After a 7 day poll on our website, our fans have spoken, and we've decided to keep the number" lol

THey shouldn't have it set up with cookies. That's too easy to bypass. Should use IP logging. Sure most dialup users get a new IP each time they connect, but I think the majority of users are broadband anyway...

www.mrx.ca is the Marketing/PR firm that handles the Dogs website... They're a Hamilton based firm ... FYI
