I'm sitting here watching the Minnesota game on TSN and they were just talking about fighting in the NHL. The commentators said that fighting is up this year. They polled a number of players (question was: is hockey: good, bad or neutral for hockey). So far there were 45 respondents and the break down is as follows:
good for hockey....35
bad for hockey....ZERO
neutral for hocky...10

i think its good for hockey... but it needs to be an even tilt...if you have a dude pounding another dude...then its not fair...also...my biggest pet peeve....both players should be equal interms of helmets etc... if the other guys helmet flies off... then take yours off too...i have seen that a few times... that shows respect...and class...

Hmm... I differ with the last part - if you get another guys helmet off during the fight, it's up to HIM to try and get yours off - or keep fighting while you wear it. But I do agree on players wearing shields removing their helmets first. There's more chance to get injured with 2 players wearing shields than without. Great way to break a hand/fingers.
I've always been a pro-fight person though, and the game wouldn't survive without it for multiple reasons.
Even the IceDogs who've been polled this year, all have said it belongs in the game.
The players love it, the fans love it, it allows guys to go after their opponents with their fists instead of building up frustration and slashing a stick over someone's head, etc, etc.
I just don't know why they keep polling people about it - EVERY poll has resulted overwhelming in fighting staying in the game, and they've been doing these polls forever. Someone will do another one next year so we can have this dicussion again :D

I know, to me its become a non-issue. Enough with the polls already!

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!!
I like the fighting in hockey and I vote that it must stay in the game, mind you the only time I hate fighting is when it seems to prolong a game to the extent that it takes over an hour to do a 20 minute period.

Yes & No, ....That one wasn't to bad, because most of it happened at the same time and it was really exciting, but I i mean more like the Mississauga game last week, where the whistle keeps blowing, people are just playing stupid & dirty and the ref's are losing control of the game.

yeah. I remember that conversation they were having.
Me and my lady friend said that fighting is good for hockey. It helps boost up the crowds energy and the teams momentum.
