View Full Version : Tailgate party for the season opener

Ok so there's no parking right next to the arena, but maybe it would be possible to get a tailgate party going in the lower level parking lot for the season opener? Luckily here in Niagara winter starts late, and October can be quite warm.
I'll be in contact with IceDogs staff and the 'booster club' they're putting together to try and push for this possibility.
I'm sure the city would frown upon alcohol, but maybe we could go so far as some portable bbqs. It's not like that area is in a residential part of town, and if people could look forward to the pre-game party as much as the game, I think it would really help get the ball rollin.
Plus the benefit of parking in the lower level lot is you don't have to risk your car in the "shady" neighborhoods around the arena (I hope nobody living in those areas is reading this!!) <lol>
Luckily for us it doesn't get cold here until mid January most years (heck we usually don't even get snow until the new year) so I think tailgating could be a definite possibility on a Sunday afternoon.
Ideas?

Sounds great... we can even get local radio stations to promo the event..like 97.7, they seem to be all over the team in town. This would be great...a huge event for the opener....now that is front page news.

We are two weeks away from the season opener. Is there going to be a tailgate party prior to the opener? I think it is a great idea! Please keep us posted as to if this is going to happen.

I'm not even sure booze is a good thing AT the games. When I was leaving there were 2 drunk guys in a pickup truck that almost sideswiped me then had the balls to swear at ME. Oh well, that neighborhood has always attracted that kind of crowd to the games.

I could do without them altogether. There's nothing worse then being stuck in a seat next to 2 or 3 drunks that 1: just won't stop talking to you all game or 2: won't stop yelling slurred words at the ref. I'm all for yelling at the refs when they make bad calls, don't get me wrong, it's part of the fun. But when drunks do it it's just annoying.
I don't mind drinking at the game - it's just the drunks that get crap-faced and wreck it for everyone around 'em I don't like.

They do not only look after the fans but the players as well. Try and go near the dressing room after a game and see what happens.

funny how this post started out as a tailgate party, and morphed into how hot tucker's wife is...lol...very strange
any update on a tailgater for the opener?
I actually enjoyed parking in the lower level parking lot at x-game versus the otters, it was a nice 5-7 minute walk, and easy as pie to get out after the game...i'll park there all the time, even in the winter.
I've gone to some rangers games in kitchener, and although they have a tonne of parking at the arena itself, if you don't get there early enough, you're parking at side streets, and the walk from there is probably almost as far as parking from the lower level lot...so I will complain no more about parking at the jack...if you can't walk from that lot to the arena, you are truly a lazy ass! lol

Still waiting for an answer -- How hot is Tucker's wife LOL
Alright, who is in for a tailgate party this Sunday? Park a few cars beside each other... Coolers in the trunk, with cans of beer, and cups of course... And a couple of hibachi's... let's see what we can get away with.
Thoughts?

I'm up for it if someone I know goes :)
I don't mean 'someone in particular'. 'Just don't wanna stand there alone looking like an idiot not knowing who's around me.

Ha, well myself (Chris) and a bunch of my buddies will be in ... So you'll know at least six of us LOL ... If you're interested, let's discuss location and go from there!
Re your press pass - shouldn't be a problem identifying yourself as a freelance photographer..

Would that count? I thought CHL policy was that you had to be part of a "media outlet". ?? I doubt they'd let freelance photographers in with the cameras (I WISH THOUGH!)

You should call Niagara this Week to see if they would give you accreditation ... Have any of your photos made the local papers before?

Nope. The Weather Network, yes (storm/lightning photos), a book put out by Scholastic Canada on storms yes, never any sports stuff.

You should call the managing editor, and say you will get them photos of the away game they can use for publishing in their paper... They might allow you to use their name for media accreditation ... Call the Managing Editor at NTW... Gord Bowes..

Hm.... it would probably go against policy to hand out a media pass to a person not employed by the company. I'm sure there's strict policy governing the "lending" out of media passes. I've contacted the CHL about how I go about either applying for a pass, or at least permission without a pass, and am awaiting their reply.

Might be time to produce a business card mentioning you're a freelance, with some outlets you covered for in the past on the back of it... make mention of the weather network ... and try and get one of your photos in a local paper... just a thought!
