ST. CATHARINES -- There are several familar names to area hockey fans on the short list of players for the Ontario Under 17 Team.

The players were among the 84 players from across the province who attended the Provincial Under 17 identification camp held at York University June 25-29.
"The process of narrowing the numbers down was not an easy task. The five-day camp gave all of our evaluators, including our coaching staff, an opportunity to observe the skill sets that these athletes possess. These top 35 players will continue to be evaluated throughout the fall months with their club teams," said Team Ontario Director of Operations Rob Kitamura. The 35 players on the short list will continue to be monitored by Kitamura, head coach Jason Brooks along with assistant coaches Jake Grimes and Mario Cichillo, who is the head coach of the Niagara Ice Dogs. Players in the top 35 with local connections include: Andrew Agozzino, the Ice Dogs top pick in the OHL entry draft; Taylor Beck of Niagara Falls; Alex Friesen of Niagara-on-the-Lake, who was the Ice Dogs second round pick; Riley Sheahan of St. Catharines and Justin Shugg of Niagara Falls. The team that is selected will represent Ontario at the 2007/2008 International World Hockey Challenge in London. Ont. Dec. 27-Jan. 5.
