ST. CATHARINES—Niagara IceDogs defenceman Matt Corrente, who signed a contract this week with the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League, will be in St. Catharines on Saturday to meet with fans and sign autographs.

The 19-year-old Corrente, a native of Mississauga, was the first-round choice (30th over-all) of the Devils in the 2006 NHL entry draft.

The six-foot, 200-pound rearguard, split the 2006-07 OHL season between Saginaw and Mississauga, finishing the season with three goals, 23 assists and a plus-13 rating. He was acquired by the IceDogs in a trade that sent centre Cody Bass to Saginaw.

Joining Corrente this Saturday at the Niagara IceDogs’ office (35 Queen Street in St. Catharines) will be forwards Luca Caputi and Stefan Legein, both of whom are highly-rated for this year’s NHL draft in Columbus, Ohio.

Legein, who had a breakout year last season, is ranked 13th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting heading into this year’s draft. The 18-year-old Legein, a native of Oakville, scored 43 goals and added 32 assists for the IceDogs last season. He was also a plus-31.

Caputi, a six-foot-three, 180-pound left-winger, is ranked 62nd among North American skaters for this year’s draft. Last season with the IceDogs, he scored 27 goals and added 38 assists. He finished the season with a plus-22 rating.

The Niagara IceDogs office will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Season tickets can be bought either in person at 35 Queen Street or by calling the IceDogs office at (905) 687-3641.
