And Randy Jones gets 2 games....

Boulerice checks Kesler to the face and gets 20 games (or was it 25 games?)... Kesler misses no time.

Does something seems a little off about the system they have for suspensions?

no not at all. To some extent, Bergeron was at least a bit responsible for the injuries he sustained. he turned at the last minute which enabled his head to be struck. The other hits you mentioned there was intent to injure, it is my opinion that Jones did not intend to injure Bergeron.

I dont think Bergeron turned at the last second, his back was facing Jones the whole time. It was a careless play regardless if the intent was there. I think players will keep being careless because they know they won't get in trouble if they look like they didn't mean to do it. I know Randy Jones isn't a goon but 2 games for Boston losing their best player for an extended period of time? Seems kinda ridiculous in my mind. Smells like Kaberle/Janssen last year, wouldn't even have mattered if they suspended him the rest of the season, he barely plays at all. I don't know I think they need to look at these incidents differently. There are many ways Randy Jones could have made an effective play without plowing Bergeron into the boards in my mind.

Edit: Bergeron may have been able to do something differently but maybe Jones could have recognized that Bergeron was vulnerable. I like hard hockey but I also like respect.

the Bergeron hit has been blown way out of proportion...there are all kinds of hits like this in the NHL, the problem was, Bergeron turned at the last second, and was hunched over, so that when he got hit, his face went into the dasher board.

Personally, I don't even think there should have been a suspension.

talking about questionable hits, Bouwmeester hits Gagne with an elbow/shoulder to the head, and now, Gags has missed 4 games and expected to miss more with a concussion....

no suspension to bouwmeester, and not even any talk about it, even though it was a shot to the head.

things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm................

while the NHL has made a conscious effort to come down hard on hits that are illegal, there are just too many "hockey incidents" throughout the season. Its going to be interesting to see if the league (read: colin campbell) stays consistant in what punishments are handed down during the year.

IGT, as for respect, I dont see the hit on Bergeron as being disrespectful. It was an innocent play that turned out badly for Bergeron. I feel bad that he is boing to miss some time, but hey, its hockey. It wasnt like it was a two hander to the face.

Just my 2 cents.

I dont think after watching the reply a few times that Jones saw anything other than the number 37, he could have held up but Bergeron could have protected himself a bit more by not hunching over. I don't know, I think the onus is on the hitter and not the hittee to adapt considering Bergeron was not able to see Jones coming. Players skate into the boards like that all the time and nothing happens. Jones is not a dirty player he just got stuck in a bad position. Im not saying he should have been banned for life from hockey but accountability has to be in the game somewhere. Well, what's done is done and I'm not a league official so anything I say is merely my subjective opinion! Take it for what it is.

That, my friend, is all any of us have.

My roomate was just telling me that Bergeron needs a wheelchair to walk at the moment because when he stands up the vertigo is pretty intense. He's also not sleeping well waking up 2-3 times a night... not looking good....

2-3 times a night would be greaT! (heh, I usually wake up every hour on the hour.. .I've got really bad sleeping patterns. Usually at least 5 times a night I'm up tossing and turning, GRRR).

Sucks to hear about the vertigo though. What happened to him anyway? I can't remember hearing/seeing anything.

Randy Jones of the Flyers cranked him into the boards from behind
