If anyone has any dates they can remember, please post 'em and I'll edit this post and add them in. I should have started this from the get-go but there was no real 'official start' to getting this ball rolling.

Projected opening date: September 2014 (projection as of spring 2012)

[2007] Dogs sign five year lease with the intent of commencing talks for a new arena to open when the lease expires in 2012.
[date?] Arena hires Deloitte to do feasibility study
[date?] Deloitte comes to conclusion new arena won't make money.
[May.9/11] City council agrees to go forward with new arena 'in principle' - making funds available to move forward with more research.
[Dec.5/11] City council votes 9-3 in favor of building the arena.
[Feb/12] CBRE Limited selected to design the new building
[Apr/12] Council contemplating what to include into design
[Apr/12] CBRE will soon start to pre-qualify bidders, developing a short list of three-to-five consortiums by mid-June. The short-listed candidates will be provided with a Request for Proposals document around that time, and be given about 10 weeks to submit their plans and price.
[Jun.6/12] city issued a Request for Qualification of Design Build Contractors (RFQ) which invites firms to submit a proposal outlining their qualifications (thanks: LocalSportsReport)
[Apr.10/13] Final steel piling driven into ground during work of foundation.
[Jul 2012] Deputy Mayor Peter Secord announces Ball/Rankin Construction; Giffels Westpro / Norr Project Team; and PCL Contractors Canada Inc. as the three successful design-build consortiums selected to respond to the spectator facility request for proposal.
[Aug 2012] Council formally designates 55 McGuire Street as the site for the spectator facility.
[Oct 2012] Ball-Rankin Construction Inc. is retained to design and build the spectator facility for the guaranteed maximum price of $45 million.
[Nov 2012] Niagara Ice Dogs sign a 20 year spectator facility lease with the City of St. Catharines.
[Dec 2012] Groundbreaking ceremony takes places to acknowledge the commencement of construction.
[Jan 2013] Pile driving begins.
[Apr 2013] Foundation work begins.
[Aug 2013] Foundation work ends, building of structure begins.
[Apr 2014] Structure including exterior walls nears completion.
[Jul 2014] Structural work completed, inside work continues.
[Aug 2014] Seats installed, video board installed.
[Oct.6 2014] Orientation for ushers
[Oct.8 2014] Open house for season ticket holders
[Oct.11 2014] Open house for general public
[Oct.16 2014] Home opener / 1st game in arena: Niagara IceDogs vs. Belleville Bulls

So, what is the very latest on the progression of the new arena? I go by it evry time on the way to work, and im always eager to see what's going on. However, I haven't seen much going on there in a while. Isn't the place supposed to be ready for 2012-13?

Spectator Facility Timeline

March 2008
Council requests staff to report on the economic impact of a 5,000 plus seat multiuse arena in the downtown area.

June 2008
The Downtown Sports and Entertainment Task Force is established and charged with developing a downtown arena development strategy.

January 2010
Deloitte and Touche LLP is retained to undertake a feasibility study for the proposed downtown spectator facility.

May 2011
The construction of a spectator and entertainment facility in downtown St. Catharines is approved in principle, on the basis of satisfactory funding and planning arrangements.
September 2011
SMG Canada ULC is retained to provide project consultant services on the design and planning of the St. Catharines spectator facility project.

December 2011
Council approves the design and construction of a multi-use 4,500 to 5,300 seat spectator facility with a maximum budget of $50 million -- $17 million from the Civic Project fund, $5 million from fundraising/naming rights and $1 million from the Federal Gas Tax Fund.

February 2012
CBRE Limited is retained to provide design-build consultant services.

April 2012
User group consultations are held.
Mayor Brian McMullan announces the provincial government has committed $1 million to the spectator facility project.

May 2012
Public consultations are held.
The Superlative Group, Inc. is retained to undertake both the valuation study and the sales for naming rights and sponsorship development.

Appointments to the spectator facility fundraising committee are made.
June 2012
Request for Pre-Qualification of Design Build Contractors is issued.
July 2012
