Had a look to see what's coming up at the Meridian Centre which might conflict with the Ice Dogs - sad to say, the calendar is pretty bare!

Yeah. I'm shocked at how few concert events have been booked. Although we knew this would kinda happen as when the KRock Centre opened the similar situation occurred there as well.

I guess the naysayers are right it is a 'puck palace' to which I say "who cares". Glad I'm not paying for it!

Takes a while to get established a few concerts coming up in December and the womens curling in Feb 2017 it more than a puck place basket ball team and a lacrosee team play there has well and they had a few concerts plus Jerry Sienfield and also coming the Long Island Meduim.

Globetrotters are there today, River Lions tomorrow. Lacrosse is using it.

Plus they prob need a month or so to get the arena in shape for next season.

Wow where's the kool aid stand?

Sure the River Lions and Lacrosse are using it, BUT, how much are they PAYING?

Both teams draw like flies. I can't imagine they are paying any substantial amount of money towards facility rental costs. If they are, those two teams would be losing money like crazy and I doubt they will be around long term. (Leading to many more dark nights at the MC if/when that happens)

It Will be interesting to see the financial performance of the arena after year two. I bet it's still losing boatloads of cash.

I also doubt they need a "at least a month" to get ready for next season . Lol

I'm glad it's built. I'm glad I'm not paying for it. We shouldn't be happy with the lack of big events IMHO. Let's be real ...

I really couldn't care less what they charge those teams. The arena is being used several times a month for events other than hockey is my point. For what it's worth the Basketball seems to be going over quite well. I haven't checked the attendance and I'm sure it's not great but I do know several people who on a regular basis and really seem to like it. Curling's coming, they've had skating shows and monster trucks, the odd music show. Obviously the busier the better but it is being used.

I haven't heard one person say a bad thing about the River Lions. Very, very entertaining. In fact (and this was before this playoff run) a number of season ticket holders for both teams said they preferred going to the basketball games.

Just for the heck of it, I found and glanced through a 2013 Report to Council - City of Kingston.

Re- Rogers K-Rock Centre.

Since the year 2008 to 2013, event number have increased yearly and so has the income from these events which includes the Frontenacs.

One part of the document stated that the R-Rock Center events were hindered by the closeness to Ottawa and Toronto and Oshawa which they have to compete with for these events.

Here in Niagara, the Meridian has to compete with the Fallsview Casino, the Niagara Convention Centre, Buffalo events, Hamilton and Toronto events.

We are in the middle of the above.
Having said the above, I believe that the events will grow yearly just like they have in Kingston.

We are looking forward to more events coming in the future.

They budgeted for several hundred thousand each year. Cant remember the exact amount. Google it. The City knew they would be contributing to the operating expenses. Just like they do with the other arenas and PAC.

I drove thru downtown this afternoon. The place was hopping with activity. Commerce was happening, people were smiling.
