Niagara IceDogs 2019-20 (Week 22)

http://forum.icedogfans.com/picture....&pictureid=720
The Niagara IceDogs are hanging by a thread in the eighth place spot in the East. The team has 39 points (still) and a 0.375 win record. Niagaraís scoring leaders are Lodnia (22-29), Castleman (21-30) and Butler (16-11). There was no goaltending to speak of.

The gap to 9th place is currently at 1 point.

dogs777 02-12-2020 03:37 PM

Unless we get points tomorrow against Barrie I think the gap stays at 1 ahead come Sunday night

strohs 02-12-2020 05:25 PM

Whenever I see a lose thread I like to pull it and sometimes things fall apart ...

So let me pull the thread on the Dogs weak grasp at a playoff spot and see what unravels ...

Given the Dogs horrible effort the last game I went to (and I do not feel like going out in the snow tonight, cannot find someone to watch the kids tomorrow night, and I hate Sunday afternoon games!) I?m not bothering wasting my time going to any games this weekend. Hopefully the dogs show up this weekend and at least give an effort.

Hoping for a zero point weekend. It would be nice if we were nOt outscored 4 goals against for every goal scored this weekend.

Go opponents go!

Lodnia returns tonight according to Rod Mawhood

three dog night 02-13-2020 10:03 PM

Thought they played a bit better but little mistake seem to cost us big time nice to see Lodina back end this nasty streek tomorrow

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better example of what an inexperienced sub-par coach can do for you:
It’s 3-1 Barrie, and the Dogs at least are showing signs of a possibility of a comeback. Billy is giving it to referee Cairns(he likely deserved it). The arena was empty and quiet enough that I could hear every word of the exchange between Burke and Cairns, including Cairns saying to Billy, ‘That’s enough! That’s enough! One more and you’re gettin’ it!(a bench minor)’.
Turns out it’s a 2 for unsportsmanlike and a 10. One shift later, 3-1 becomes 4-1, and its nighty-night. Ok that’s fine, make your point, Billy, then put a sock in it.

Your goalie could make a save on that breakaway goal softest goal Iíve seen in awhile your the forwards could actually score on a point blank shot for once instead of putting the puck wide.

dogged74 02-14-2020 08:04 AM

I don’t disagree, 777. I think that just underlines again the tragedy of Tucker Tynan’s injury. Nothing personal to Andrew McLean, but that’s a save a goalie needs to have, whoever you are. That’s got to be disheartening on the bench. Especially when, if you’re on the bench, and the reason for the penalty is standing right behind you.
The Dogs have a handful of nice pieces on this team, but not that many. They simply cannot shoot themselves in the foot; they cannot score their way out of trouble. I was sitting in my spot, a few rows behind the bench, muttering ‘Shut up, Billy, shut up Billy..’ and then, Cairns turns around, and ‘T’s him up.’
It’s nothing personal: McLean is not good enough, and the Dogs don’t have anyone else.

hotdog fan 02-14-2020 09:07 AM

I really don't think that Tucker was going to be our savior all year. With all the injuries we have had this would probably still be the outcome. Yes he was doing an awesome job up till the injury but not sure how it would of played out after all the other injuries we had. These boys are accountable for their play as of late. They need to make the passes and set themselves up to be able to put the puck in the net. Until this happens nothing will change.

It doesn't matter if Dominek Hasek is in goal you need to score more than one goal in a game. It amazes me people blame goalies. It doesn't matter if you lose 1-0 or 11-0 (like the IceDogs have been lately) if you don't score you don't win. No matter what goalie is in net.

Blacksox 02-14-2020 10:14 AM

For those of us eyeing the number 2 overall pick, Sarnia won to extend their lead to 3 points and Kingston remains 1 point back with 2 games in hand.

If Kingston is to claim that last playoff spot, they will need to get this done sooner rather than later. The Fronts play their next 4 games at home and then the next 7 on the road (Kingston hosting the Briar).

Having the #2 pick in the OHL Draft and #4 pick in the Import Draft can alter the fortunes of this franchise and have a far more long lasting effect then 4 playoff games against Ottawa.

The IceDogs have two players trying to impress the NHL scouts at the games - would it not be a good idea to play one of the leagues best players (Lodnia) on the LW with Uberti and Butler? Lodnia is so dominant when he is on the ice he elevates his line-mates play and capable of increasing their point production.

Not much is being gained playing Lodnia with Castleman and Bruder at this point.

dogged74 02-14-2020 10:39 AM

Black Sox, It’s not us here on the forum that you need to make an impression on as far as good ideas. It’s the coaching staff that’s a little light on hockey sense. And timing. And coaching fundamentals.

Youíre right in this league (and in almost every league) you need more than 1 to win people blame goalies cause itís their job to not allow goals that ďshouldnít happenĒ and when they do it can mess with a teams confidence last night wasnít on goaltending but he still shouldíve had that one and who knows maybe the game is different we also went 0-2 on 5 on 3s if I remember correctly and even though weíre rebuilding that shouldnít happen with the guys we have on the ice

I think the scouts already have a good idea what those players are and playing them with Lodnia wouldnít change minds that much but maybe try it once Lodnia gets back to himself which will take a few games (also hope Iím wrong but when I saw he returned last night first thing that came into my head was :9898: we probably make the playoffs now)

dogged74 02-14-2020 10:56 AM

The Dogs are going to have to have one heck of a winning percentage to make the playoffs. Which would require winning hockey games. Which requires competent coaching. This team cannot string two passes together.

They looked like they could string passes together the last 2 games they just couldnít finish around the net when they got chances. They donít have to have one heck of a winning percentage (I only see 2-3 ďwinnable gamesĒ for Kingston the rest of the year) same with us

What was exact penalty on Robert's for helmet visor?

Eye shield not over his eyes.

If you have limited confidence in your goalie and defensive team, you are less likely to leave the zone and attempt to score. Hockey 101 says you can't outscore a leaky back end.

dogged74 02-14-2020 09:33 PM

Aaaand that’s another loss.... eleven straight losses. The Dogs must be approaching Mississauga IceDog levels of losing streaks.

Chipperdog 02-14-2020 09:50 PM

Hey Billy ...time to step down....is this a business? Or 64 Family outings...enough already.

three dog night 02-14-2020 10:10 PM

Another tough loss tonight the difference tonight was the power play has the Bulldogs scored three and we only scored once with the man advantage. One day the streak will end hopefully Sunday.

Even rebuilding teams have limits.

Weíve actually played better the last couple of games just got into penalty trouble tonight and I donít expect us to win against a much better team Sunday or next Thursday

Chipperdog 02-14-2020 10:31 PM

Rebuilding is one thing....playing without any kind of structure is another...thats why we need a leader and a teacher behind the bench...it ALL starts at the top.

dogged74 02-14-2020 10:48 PM

Is Bruce Boudreau interested in coaching in the OHL? Coaching a certain Iced Dog team?

dogged74 02-14-2020 10:53 PM

At some f-ing point this has to stop. And I’m not talking about this most current losing streak. I’m talking about this whole bloody ‘Let’s have my kid coach the team I own’ experiment. Have we seen enough now? Can we call it a day? Do we need any more evidence that Billy Boy is in way over his head and doesn’t know what he’s doing? Would Bruce Boudreau even be interested in an OHL job?

Are you kidding?

Burke Sr will spin it this way:

The team is in the beginning of a massive rebuild and my boys kept them in a hunt for a playoff spot all season long!

Drops ?

It's getting to be more of a joke every game....thats for sure

In other news, Windsor beat Kingston 6-5 tonight so the team remains in 8th place - cue the band!

Anyway, Jerseys...YAY or NAY? I liked them.

It was better than another St. Party's Day jersey but not horribly original.

The Valentine’s Day uniforms were good similar to the Washington Capital uniform.
