More Ice Dogs Coverage

There is a great new website just released by former Standard writers Bernie Puchalski and Bill Potrecz dedicated to the daily coverage of local sports in St. Catharines and Thorold - including several stories about the Ice Dogs.

But will Bill and Bernie have the stones to ask hard questions or write about things that aren't always favorable? For instance why wasn't Dhillon drafted?

Easy, knowing both of these chaps personally I can assure you of their upmost professional manner.

Maybe Dhillon's glove hand may have something to do with him not being drafted. Figure it out.

That and some the odd excursions outside the net with the puck. However, it could easily be the best thing that ever happens to him; a real character building year if he wants it badly enough and I think he just might:thumbsup:

Goaltenders take longer to develop, while you hear of the 16 year old phenom forwards, 18 year old defensive juggernauts, really that position starts at about age 21. His size and skill are there, the rest is experience and perhaps "style" points as well. But what would be helpful is to have local media asking those questions of the staff at the NHL clubs.

Timing too ...

Moran has one good playoff series and gets drafted in his draft year ...

Dhillon didn’t play much in his draft year ... plays a tonne and very well in his season after his draft year ... not even a 7th rounder wasted on him.

Good timing for Moran ... bad timing for Dhillon.

I’ve seen both play A LOT of games ... clearly IMHO Dhillon is the better goalie ...

Doesn’t always work that way at the draft table.

Hopefully he gets a shot at the pro game one day ...

For now we get to enjoy that NHL scouts have passed over him .....

I don't think that draft is currently helping Moran.

Although 5 years in the OHL is currently paying for his tuition...

Captain Corneil
By Bill Potrecz (bpsportsniagara)

http://bpsportsniagara.ca/captain-corneil/

Burke appreciates how Corneil’s game has evolved. “He’s improved himself every year, from a long shot to make the team as a 16-year-old, to a healthy scratch as a 17-year-old, to a guy who we didn’t know what he was going to be,” Burke said. “He kept getting better and scored 20, and then 30, and now he looks like he’s going to be one of the top over-agers in the league.”

Absolutely, and keepers have a better shelf life, so there is absolutely no rush for him. He could get drafted early, go develop, make mistakes on a farm team and get lost in the minors for his career, or develop a few extra years in the O and step into the show. I hope he doesn't see this as discouraging in the least.

Hell, the extra year Ho-Sang spent with us after his training camp oopsie have made him all the better as well.
