Next Season Scenarios
 

Given that the prohibition on large gatherings will likely extend for many months, what do you see as a likely scenario for the upcoming OHL season? Shorter season? Delayed full season? All games played in Mississauga where no one attends? TV only? Will tickets be the same price or more for less games? Will teams fold?

I see a shorter season with fans if that’s even possible at some point the NHL and other big sports leagues can play TV only (no fans) because of massive TV deals I don’t think the OHL can afford to do that. When it comes to the ticket prices I can see it going either way teams would probably like to up the cost of a ticket to get some money they lost back but at the same time might not actually do it because they know most fans won’t have that extra money to spend on a ticket which could make attendance worse than if prices stay the way they are now. As for teams folding I could see it happening in Mississauga but other than them teams should be ok if hockey comes back at some point next season

OHL only comes back when fans can fill arenas. It simply isn't fiscally possible otherwise unfortunately. :(

Does every team have a slush fund to dip into when there is no ticket revenue? Will half a season at present rates be enough to keep them solvent?

This league simply cannot afford to play in empty arenas ...

Sounds as though David Branch doesn't want admit it, but Professor Rick Powers from UoT (Rotman) nailed it - the OHL depends on bums in seats for its existence. If a prosperous team like Kitchener is already nervous you can imagine what is going on elsewhere. Kitchener has to be transparent as they are owned by the city.

I would love to know how the Rangers only made $335k with gross revenue of $6.7M!?

Assuming the overhead (ie operating expenses) for all OHL franchises is relatively equal ... then fans like Missy et al that don?t bring in $6.7M would be losing millions per season .... which I can?t imagine they do

I?d love to see where the Rangers spend their money ...........
