FUTURE STAR PROFILE #1: ISAAC ENRIGHT

Source: hockeynewsnorth
Referring to a player as a franchise defensemen is heady praise indeed. But the term “franchise defenseman” has been used by more than one OHL general manager and scout to describe both Brandt Clarke and Roman Schmidt - and the “franchise defenseman” tag has also been used in worthy description of Isaac Enright of the Pembroke Lumber Kings.

Isaac Enright has effortless four-way mobility. He has a long, smooth skating stride that allows him to cover a lot of ground – uses his skating to his advantage in both the offensive and defensive facet of the game. Enright uses his edges to make forecheckers miss when he's in possession, and also has the straight-line speed to join the rush. Defensively, his ability to pivot combined with his excellent angling allows him to defend high in the neutral zone and prevent clean zone entries.

Enright is incredibly difficult to forecheck, and shows very little panic when pressured. He is a tremendous distributor of the puck. His passes are firm and accurate, and he can make the long stretch pass to create odd-man rushes. Enright has the opportunity to be an elite transitional defender whose team will spend markedly more time in the other team's end than their own.

An intelligent two-way defenceman, Enright was recognized with an invitation to compete for Team Ontario at the 2019 Canada Winter Games – and Canada U-17 Developmental Camp.

Enright is a smooth-skating defender who uses his sense and vision of the ice to remain one step ahead of the competition. His mind is one of his greatest assets, processing plays instantaneously and making wise puck and positional decisions.

Enright’s skating ability is off the charts. An effortless skater, Enright can reach top speeds in a matter of a few strides and is able to stop, start, and change directions in a flash. On the breakout, Enright can fire effective two-line passes, or rush the puck through all three zones with confidence.

Enright checks all the boxes in terms of essentials, including impressive sense, intelligence, and decision making, as well as effortless skating and intriguing offensive upside.
