Excellent breakdown of the drafts 5forF, but the reason why ALL fans were expecting more this year (.500 season), was that along with two good drafts of high round picks (2020, 2021) plus adding Aiden Castle to that group; the IceDogs had two capable OAs returning (Howard, Betts) - expected JB would add a 3rd OA, an elite goalie Tucker Tynan, traded for 2nd rounds Cam Butler - Cam Peters in 2020, and drafted and signed two impressive Imports in NHL drafted Danil Gushchin and NHL draft prospect Rodwin Donicio.

The fact that other OHL teams with less are doing more is at the very least concerning.

Agree with this post except - Howard is a below average OA. He brings certain aspects to the game I love but really as an OA I would expect a lot better quality than he. We will see his value if/when he is ever traded.

Since when is Tynan elite? Not taking anything away from the kid but he had a good half season before injury and has been ok this year. Butler I expected more out of for sure he could still get back on track if he shoots more as for Peters if everyone was playing well hes probably a third line C

I would not be surprised if a team in the "Q" League takes a flyer on Howard. Once he clears waivers, unless he already has.

If you look at our 2018 and 2019 OHL drafts, you can see why this team is so weak.
When you detailed the draft in those years, it really does explain where we are today.

Yes he has had some subpar games this year but he has also had some outstanding games this year.
US hockey and NHL teams consider him elite.
Read the Hockey News feature on Tynan.

Most of the media preseason predictions I read had the Icedogs fighting for a playoff spot. Most of the fan predictions on HF boards had the Icedogs in last or near last. I think a .500 season wouldn’t happen no matter who was the coach.

I just don’t think you can count on rookies to lead the team and our veterans for the most part aren’t too strong.

Betts didn’t even get drafted in the regular draft but got selected in the U18 draft. Kitchener drafted him but he didn’t make the team and eventually they traded him to us for a 10th round pick. He’s not an elite defenceman but I give Billy credit for developing him into a decent player. Most players selected in the U18 graft never play in the OHL.

Butler is okay but never got drafted to the NHL and I think is more a second line player and Peters is a third line player. Gushchin is an elite player but I think he’s the only one and the only legitimate 1st line player.

When you say media, what outlets are you talking about? One of the more respected OHL media outlets “Brock Otten OHL Prospects” predicted the IceDogs in 6th, which is what most fans on here assumed was a reasonable expectation.

Searched for a few more online preseason predictions and came up with only these two…LONDON FREE PRESS Ryan Pyette a knowledgeable OHL writer predicted 3rd and not sure how reliable a source thehockeywriter.com are but they predicted the IceDogs 4th.

In true Burke fashion(and innovation) why dont they flip Billy and Joey for Jamie and Corey? Keep the family on the payroll and be a trendsetter in the process!!
