Default Meridian Centre Hall of Fame

Does anyone know why the St. Catharines' Hockey Hall of Fame was removed from the Concourse level - and replaced with rowing? It seemed like the perfect place to display memorabilia of the hockey history in St. Catharines.

It's actually a Sports Hall of fame, and not just for hockey.
Rowing will be displayed for another year I believe, then mother sport will have a chance to display.
The sport of rowing is very rich in this region.

Ok but it seems kind of silly to prominently display a rowing exhibit at a hockey arena ...

How about have the rowing hall of fame at say like the rowing venue?

That must make too much sense alas that is not what is done lol

As mentioned above it is a "Sports" Hall of Fame not just hockey. I believe there's a curling display or two there now, that was purposely placed because of the recent Scotties Tournament.

It will be interesting to see what goes next. I think (heard) it's changing every year or two. So it will be back to hockey.

I agree!

I really enjoyed looking at the memorabilia of the local Hockey Hall of Fame exhibit!

I always felt like they could even expand it – and feature past Ice Dogs teams and players. As an example, the Barrie Molson Centre has team pictures from previous years displayed in the bar. It’s interesting – for our fans and out-of-town visitors - to look back at all the players who played for the local team.

Then one day it was gone – and it never came back!

Here is an idea.

Make it the permanent display for hockey. Then rotate out different sports each year with a 1/4 of the space.

Such a sense of entitlement some of you Ice Dog Fans have wouldn't you say?

Remember, Meridian Centre is owned by the City of St. Catharines (thank god for that). It is a multi functional Community building. Ie: concerts, backsetball and yes, even your beloved Ice Dogs have the right to play their first.

Actually, there are designs for a Rowing Hall of Fame at the world famous Canadian Henley Martindal Pond, just fund raising and making awareness right now.

Ice Dogs have only been here for ten years, the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta has been here for 135. Think about that for a moment.

Classic case of not being able to do all of it right, so they do all of it wrong.

You'd think after 135 years they'd have their together by now and have already built their Hall of Fame. Hopefully the architects remember to include the mandatory IceDogs portion of the exhibit , fair is fair.
