It was corrected to read 5. With the Ice Dogs in the upper third of the chart, it’s important that they to hold on to all their draft picks. Ideally, teams like London and Barrie – join in with SSM, Kitchener and Hamilton and become buyers. As far as the draft picks go, it would create more separation between those teams and Niagara.

According to the chart, there are about 7 or 8 teams eyeing an OHL title that are looking to make trades with less draft picks than Niagara – so it will be very interesting to see the cost of players in January.

London is the wildcard. I hope they’re buyers! Go Knights!

Ice Dogs Prospect: Ryan Campbell
Campbell had a good camp back in August, but there was no mention of him afterwards. From what I have been able to gather, he was injured (not sure before or during camp), but subsequently had shoulder surgery. It is expected that Ryan Campbell will back play Junior B hockey in the new year.

2017 OHL Development Combine Off-Ice Testing Top Performers:
Drills included the traditional Broad Jump, Hand Grip, 20M Sprint, 5-10-5 Sprints and Wingate, along with new skills tests this season which included Pull-Ups, Squat, Drop, and Counter Movement Jumps, and 1080 Sprint technology adding resistance to measure power and force.

Top 5 Forwards:
1. Ryan Campbell (Cambridge Hawks)
2. Kurtis Evans (Central Ontario Wolves)
3. Mitchell Russell (Barrie Jr. Colts)
4. Jalen Balbosa (York Simcoe Express)
5. Nicholas Porco (Vaughan Kings)

Prior to the 2016-2017 season, here was Ryan Campbell’s Priority Selection Scouting Report:“By the time we reach the 2017 OHL Priority Selection - Campbell should be in firm contention for a top-10 slot. While he currently possesses all of the pro tools you could want out of a Bantam-aged player, Campbell needs to hone in on his offensive game to become a more consistent finisher as he goes into his draft year. If he can make some strides in this area while maintaining his all-around game, there's no doubting the fact that he'll be a prospect every OHL team will be coveting.”

After the 2017 draft, the scout.ca wrote: "Campbell falls down to the 6th round for Niagara after starting the year as a candidate to be a 1st round pick. Campbell has loads of talent in so many different facets of the game. He has speed, stick handling and a great shot. His defensive game has improved this year and Campbell could be considered a steal in a couple years."

IceDogs primed to take next step
By Bill Potrecz- September 19, 2017
http://www.bpsportsniagara.ca/icedog...ake-next-step/

“Right from Day 1, we’ve talked that we want to win 40 games and if we do that we think that will put us right in the conversation for the division,” said new head coach Billy Burke.

At the 30 game mark of year 2, the Ice Dogs:

• have a .617 winning percentage – at that pace the Ice Dogs would finish with 84 points, which is more points than Billy Burke’s goal of 40 wins.

• are currently tied with Barrie for 1st in the Central division (37 pts).

• are in 4th place (and/or tied for 2nd) in the Eastern Conference.

• are tied for 6th in OHL overall standings.

Stephen Dillhon is currently the 5th ranked goal with a 2.75 GAA and a .910 SV%.
<> Colton Incze has taken a major step forward – improving his SV% to .903, but a .950 SV% in his last 2 games.

• face of the team (this year and next year) Jones, Thomas and Maksimov (18 goals) all have 31 points – and their game is trending upwards.

Daniel Singer (24 pts) is only 3 shy of his season total from last year.

• Penalty kill is ranked 2nd in OHL.

• Defensively the Ice Dogs have conceded 92 goals – ranked 4th in OHL.

Go Dogs!

Currently, the Ice Dogs do not have a player in the Top 20 OHL Scoring, however, the majority of those players are 98s and 97s.

Ice Dogs Prospect: Mason Howard

Mason building his Future
By Bill Potrecz - December 14, 2017

http://www.bpsportsniagara.ca/mason-building-future/

Mason Howard would love nothing more than to follow in the footsteps of Vince Dunn. “I just want to develop and make sure I get there next year and keep going after that,” Howard said.

“He’s been one of our top D right from the get go,” Barnes said. “He was one of four defencemen from the start of the season and he played a big role.

“Definitely my compete level is higher knowing I have to play well against the older, tougher, bigger guys,” he said.

“He was captain of his minor midget team so he already has leadership qualities and he knows what it takes to get there.”

The Dogs are trending really well as far as prospect development right now, which is why I’d like to see the Dogs do very little to disturb the ‘baking process’, and just let it cook. I know teams are starting to make moves to improve themselves now, but right now, unless the Dogs receive a ‘blow your socks off’ kind of trade offer, I would just leave it alone

Exactly, resist the urge to tinker unless the offer is irresistible or the price is low.

I am still looking for a player that we improve our roster and not cost us a fortune.

To my way of thinking, it will have to be a 'knock your socks off' kind of deal... You don't mess with team chemistry for anything less... These boys are playing well-ish... Better than most of us expected anyway (except for some homers who think we're gonna win it all every year... lol).

Year 2 of a rebuild, we should be selling off a couple of excess parts (Dame, Schaefer, etc) for picks to turn into a couple of impact players next year.

I am looking for a player along the line of our Maksimov for example. A player who is under-achieving or not getting ice time and could use a change of scenery.
That could help us this season, next season and maybe as an overage player.
