Well, if one sport featured every two years constitutes a Sports Hall of Fame – then future exhibits, for local sports enthusiasts and historians, could spotlight…???

2019 Curling
2021 Lacrosse
2023 Basketball
2025 Football
2027 Boxing
2029 Soccer
2031 Baseball
2033 Track and Field
2035 …back to Hockey!

Re: Retiring IceDog numbers

Perhaps a section of the Sports Hall of Fame can be used to showcase the IceDogs’ history in Niagara.

A simple display of all the team pictures (along with a video highlight reel of memorable IceDogs moments) - and of course recognize some of the IceDog greats (Visentin, Petro, Hamilton, Strome, Agozzino) by inducting them on an "IceDogs Wall of Fame".

Then, when an IceDog alumni is deemed worthy (based on some criteria) - retire his number and raise a banner in the MC.

It would be nice to see the team history celebrated as some other teams do in their arenas (e.g., Oshawa and Peterborough).

Is that not essentially what they are doing by having pictures of some of the past stars and the championship teams on the walls throu out the concourse

Sort of – but it’s too scattered, random and congested amoung the fans walking the concourse. There are only a few team pictures and several featured players but no names, years or information to make it meaningful.

I’m thinking of something more organized and central that fans and visitors can reminisce around - that features all the team pictures (with the players’ names) and a wall to honour some the brightest IceDogs stars from the past.

i like the set up they have now with pictures on the posts that we can look at while walking on the concourse, but, I also agree with the thoughts of having that set area next to the hall of fame to display more pictures.

That would be great. Start honoring a few players every year. I would include Blackhawk, Teepee, Thunder and Flyer players as well. Maybe start with Mikita
