I support this. Our arena is the perfect size for the Mem Cup. Its depressing to see this tournament in a giant arena that is 3/4 empty.

I think you are right

The people running the CHL have to know that the Icedogs will not be a very good team and would not make for a competitive host

But then again it really all is about the almighty dollar and if he is stupid enough to overbid for it then we will know by whether or not he wins it

Would the Burkes pre all of their shenanigans not have been a better selection for an OHL host? Would have had new arena at that time a competitive team and the gong show was not in town yet. Wonder if they did not bid for it.

In any event as much as I love junior hockey I am pretty sure that if it does come to St Catharines the cost will be so insane that I will probably not bother going. Pretty sure they will force you to buy tickets to all games at NHL prices.

I love junior hockey but not THAT much !

With interest dissipating amongst IceDogs STHs, who is going to buy MC tickets? There is zero chance for Niagara to go from the basement to any semblance of credibility in time for this bid. Which means that the IceDogs would look like the OHL equivalent of the Washington Generals versus the Harlem Globetrotters - a team destined to lose badly every game.

It is arrogant and insulting for Niagara's team leadership to think they can lay a deuce on the ice night after night this year and yet have credibility for an MC bid. Fans want some hope their team could have a shot, not to have to hide their jerseys in disgust.

I think they are still making a healthy profit. The Icedogs are 7th in league attendance and probably have the lowest salary in the league for their hockey operations department. They don’t have an expensive GM salary to pay, their coaches are inexperienced and likely have the pay to match their experience level and they have the fewest scouts out of any OHL team. I don’t even think foregrounds media does their game day anymore as I think that is now done in house saving even more money. I am not even sure if the Icedogs have a marketing budget anymore.

Eventually attendance will fall and revenue will decrease even more but right now, I think they are probably doing well.

Great analogy. That’s too funny.

I want to go back to the time when I was proud to be an Icedogs fans. I see so many posts on social media where fans from other teams say they feel sorry for Icedogs fans or that Icedogs fans deserve better. I have even seen some fans complain about their team but then say at least it’s not as bad as the Icedogs situation. How did it come to this? The Icedogs were such a great story for all of Niagara and now they are a joke.
