Default The Buy or Sell debate (posts from other threads moved here)

The team has basically played 500 hockey without the best 3 players in the league. The sky is not falling people. What is obvious is the team doesn't have the depth without the big 3 and Theoret to play tough back 2 back games.

The second line has stepped up to the point they now have 2 lines that can score after playing much of the year with 1 and Maletta should add some depth as well.

Carter Verhaeghe is a very good young player I'm really not sure what you are watching. What do you expect from a 17 year old. He's been right around a point a game for a month and a half now. I like our young nucleus with Carter and Difruscia and hopefully Maletta leading the way and any trades will only add to that. Both rookie first rounders can play and Hughes looks like he will be a solid pick as well. I also really like Vince Dunn from what I've seen.

Yep, without our Big 3, we'd have to sell the next half century of picks in order to build a team that would win a championship this year. We'd basically have to replace lines 2, 3, and 4, 3+ defenceman, and our goalie. In other words, we'd basically have to build an entirely new team for our Big 3 to play on. Not worth it.

Sell the big 3, stock up on picks and let those high picks develop into great players so we can make a run at it in the new building. In order to make a run at it, 'most' of the pieces have to be in place, then you tinker to make everything sold. We have a few hot players, and none of the pieces in place. We have some young players that WILL develop, but they're not developed right NOW. This ain't the year, no matter how much of the future we give up. Sell sell sell.

Like I've kept saying, I will support any decision they make, but selling would be nice. I don't think we will have Strome or Hamilton to sell, but Ritchie and Theoret should fetch us some decent returns. (we're also only 6 points up on drafting 6th overall in the next draft, something that is very possible for us to accomplish. lol)

I would prefer to pick in the top 5 so we could get a shot the younger Strome....we will need to lose a few more games..lol

Yeah getting to pick #5 will be MUCH tougher than #6. (Being an Oilers fan I'm all too familiar with this talk of tanking a season ) lol

NHL deadline is Friday for a full cancelation or not. How does this compare with OHL Trade deadline?

In the "tanking" discussions, don't forget that Windsor doesn't have a first round pick this year, so if we finish ahead of them, we still "move up" a spot.

Now that the NHL is deciding to play this year, what does Marty do now? This team isn't going anywhere as is. Now the waiting game really begins, and we will see what happens Jan. 10.

I don't see us 'tanking', I see us dropping like a stone down the standings, simply because, without the top three, there is not enough OHL calibre depth on this team to compete with teams in the OHL on a night in and night out basis. I think we will still squeak into the playoffs, simply because Peterborough (19 points behind) and Ottawa (21 points behind us) are so bad.
