I would prefer an experienced GM with some sort of success. He hasn’t had that. Jr. B is a different animal. Similar to players wanting to play for St.Catharines instead of Fort Erie. Or Caledonia paying everyone to play there. The Midwest has a pecking order as well. We’ll find out pretty quickly if he knows what he’s doing. Last weeks pissing away picks is not a good start IMO.

If Roger McLeod is no longer employed, that would be step in the right direction.
You’re right we should wait and see on the coach I just would’ve rather they hire both a coach and GM who had nothing to do with the 99ers. We knew he’d probably have to move some picks for OAs since we only had Peters but I don’t get the import thing still

Fitzgerald was relegated to asst coach duties midway through his season with the Falcons and the GM assumed the head coaching duties. I don’t know the reason why but I would assume the Falcons believed he needed help.

Here is why I am not happy about DeDobbelaer owning the team:

1. When it was rumoured DeDobbelaer was going to buy the Icedogs, I did a search on his name in google and Twitter. Everything I read was very negative with different posters saying the same thing. He is not good running a hockey team. Players don’t like playing for him. He is hard to work for, etc.

2. His win-lose record with his current teams is terrible. He also had a major incident with the OHA and they tried to stop him from buying the Milton team.

3. I have been told by knowledgeable people that his top priority is to make money and not to win. This is a business venture for him, not a passion. Maybe this isn’t true but it’s what I have been told.

And of course he is always going to say the right things such as he wants to win, he loves Niagara, he never wants to rebuild, etc.

Saying these things gets people excited and when people are excited they buy tickets. Remember, it’s a business venture.

And Gretzky being a minority owner doesn’t mean anything. As far as we know DeDobbelaer gave him a small percentage of the team for the right to use his name in connection with the team. As far as I can tell, Gretzky hasn’t done a single media interview about his ownership of the Icedogs.

If you listen to the interview, it does sound like Gretzky put up some money.

Fitzgerald will have three assistant coaches on his coaching staff.

“I won’t be able to name them for a couple of days yet — there are still some logistics that they need to navigate — but I’m really excited about the staff that I will have,” he said. “They’re knowledgeable hockey people, they’re relationship builders, which is a big thing for me.

“We’re ready to build trust with these players, we want them to trust us as a staff, we want them to trust each other.”

Yes, DaDobbler clearly states that Gretzky will have a say in hockey operations.
