It would be interesting to see if other OHL/CHL teams have their Russian imports present.

So day 1 of training camp is over and no word anywhere on whether Dickinson showed up or not. Nothing here on the forum and only Brandon from the Dog Pound Podcast tweeting about camp on Twitter. Brandon didn’t say anything about Dickinson at all, which likely means he was a no show. Brandon probably wouldn’t mention Dickinson being a no show as he wouldn’t want to bring any negative PR to the Icedogs now that his podcast is the official podcast of the Icedogs.

As far as I could tell, Dickinson wasn’t at camp. Lots of players and it was hard to get any kind of impression of the players with only the one scrimmage.

Kevin He looked to be the best of the rookies (as he should since he is the highest drafted one in camp). Papais, Zito and Sirizzotti looked good. Michaud and Littlejohn played hard all through the scrimmage. Fimis, Castle and Cooke were practically invisible. I just don’t get Fimis. He always leaves me wanting more from him. I really don’t see any additional rookie signings due to a combination of no one standing out and playing like they should be signed and a lack of available roster space.

Can’t make it to tomorrow morning’s scrimmage but hoping to make the afternoon sessions.

LittleJohn just won the Minto Cup (Canadian Junior Lacrosse Championship) last night in Brampton with Whitby. Good for him to be there today. Lacrosse is not an easy sport on the body.

I am of the opinion that Fimis needs to play on the first line with our best players. That is how you get the best out of him. He was great with Guschin last year. Stick him on the 3rd line and he plays like a 3rd liner.

Guschin was great last year. When he was on suspension, I didn't see Fimis continue that level of play without him. It seemed no matter who you put Guschin with, he elevated their play - he might have even made me look good.

I am of the opinion that every player needs to not only earn their line, but maintain it. So if you are first line but you snooze for a game, you may find yourself as a second-liner while some upstart earns a spot on the top line. Having designated top-liners is a great way to enforce mediocrity. No matter how good a lower line player does, or how bad a higher line player performs - nothing changes.

While you make great arguments about making sure he earns the top line, I tend to agree with you too. But I really do hope they give it serious consideration based on what happened last year. He was a completely different player.
