Default OHL Attendance figures

Hi guys, I've had some spare time on my hands, and, being an accountant, I figured an interesting little project would be to tabulate the attendance on a league wide basis throughout the year.

The attendance figures are taken from the OHL website, from the official scoring summaries...the capacity figures were taken from the icedogs program which summarizes all of the club information.

Now, we can see how we compare to the other teams in the OHL...and so far, early on, even the darn Brampton Battalion are outdrawing us, on average!

I will post this chart semi-monthly or monthly...as demand warrants...anyways, just another thing to follow throughout the year...now lets get those turnstiles moving.

Very informative post! Good to see how the league as a whole is doing! Niagara is doing well in my mind. Once the season gets going a bit more we will hopefully see a better per game turn out.

That's also only half of their building.

I thought the % of capacity statistic would be an interesting one to follow as well...

It must be like attending a funeral wake at the Hershey Centre...beautiful arena, however, 2 out of every 3 seats empty? Yikes...Good thing Melynk is a gazillionaire, he's got lots of money to lose

Wow, even in % we're only 9th. Didn't somebody on here say that this was a hockey town? After I said the reason was the arena they said the product on the ice would sell itself ? These figures prove one of 2 things: either we're NOT a hockey town especially if dinky little towns like Belleville put more people in their stands, OR... people just don't want to come out to our arena. It's one of the two!!!

Especially being the inaugural season, and have a GREAT team on the ice - if it's not because of the arena like I've been saying all along, than what is it!? It can't be the weather, the season, or any crap like that, because other teams in the league had the same warm days, are in the same part of the season, etc, etc...

THat would be a good one.

Someone could do Average (divided by) City Population (multipled by) 100.

average / population x100 = % of population coming to games

But for "Niagara" would we use 132,000 (st. kitts population) or 430,000 (niagara population). THe later would look REAL bad.

Hey thats a really good idea, lol, I'm gonna work on that.

For my purposes, I'm just going to list the city as per where the team plays, so for Niagara, it will just be St. Catharines (although, yes, I realize, its supposed to be a regional team, however, I'm sure lots of other teams also draw from the surrounding areas...I dont have time to calculate everyone's "region").

When I get it done, I'll post it here.

Glad to see that this has opened up some eyes...exactly why I keep complaining about our attendance...with this team, there is no excuse why we are not selling out AT LEAST the seats (2800) for every game....perhaps the late June arrival has something to do with it...although, I would have a hard time believing that a lot of people in Niagara still don't know the OHL is back..

Perhaps we simply are not a hockey town?

It's the arena, no other reason. Die hards will be there game after game but no team can survive only on the die hards.

Well, to all those arena haters out there (personally, I like the arena, and its quirks), if we didn't have this arena, we wouldn't even have this team in the first place! lol

The great minds down at city hall built a brand new fourpad, the largest rink there is inadequate for junior a hockey...and niagara falls is about to do the same...wow...brains at city hall! lol
