I just want to reiterate how important it is for everyone to keep the pressure on the councillors. As we get closer and closer to building a new arena, those opposed to the new arena will get louder and louder. We need to make sure we continue to do everything we can to show council that we support a new arena. This will especially be true in May when council votes on whether to proceed to the next step.

Probably one of the most promising articles I've ever seen. They're actually TALKING about DOING it.

Quote:
The preferred location for the new spectator facility is the existing site, the committee was told, and McMullan said it's possible the construction could be staged so the IceDogs can continue playing in Jack Gatecliff arena while a new home is being built for them next door.
That's actually something I never thought of. Level the Rex, expand out closer to the road (maybe go all the way to the Geneva St. sidwalk) and put the main arena there, while the Dogs stay at the Jack. (yes, can you imagine the mess going through a construction zone to the games... but being able to see the progress on a constant basis would be worth it).

And I 100% agree with LSR above ^ We need to keep reinforcing that this is a good idea. NOT just for hockey either. I'm getting pretty stoked about possible mid-level entertainment actually coming through our city. Right now there's 'some' stuff at Casino Niagara. The ODD thing that might interest me at Brock (although nothing interesting enough for me to go). But a nice spacious building here would be great for opening up a new world of entertainment venues to the community.

Great news!

If you build it, they (IceDogs, concerts, other sports, trade shows, home shows, stand up comedians, the circus, you name it) will come!

I got an idea for them.....Level the crappy buildings in the surrounding blocks first, like right now. Then start and build us a parking garage this spring. Then level the Rex, and start the main arena this summer. By the time Sept. comes around they can start on a new Rex where the Jack is right now. We will be comfy in our new arena and have our parking problems solved........ Wait a minute, someone pinch me and wake me up from this dream.

Actually, when they first talked of reusing this site, I came up with that idea a while back on this forum but someone (don't remember who) said that the footprint didn't allow for it. Well...whatever.

I heard that the city will purchace those warehouse buildings accross from the jack and tear them down maybe it will be used for a parking garage and the new arena will be built closer to Geneva Street I t will be neat for the IceDogs to continue to play at the jack while the new areana will be constructed I hope the build the new arena just right and it will not be outdated in a few years time it will also be nice to get concerts and other events that have by passed this city because we did not have the adeqaute facility.
