Looking for a side story to Thursday’s game?

Before the trade deadline, Saginaw will be looking to add an elite top 6 centreman. They're currently running with 00 Blade Jenkins, 00 Damien Giroux and 01 Camryn Baber as their 3 primary centremen.

If the IceDogs are looking for an 03 coming back in the Akil Thomas trade, a centreman should be their first choice, but a Left-handed defenseman - to go along with RH Enright, RH Cato and LH Chanton, would complete the IceDogs future top 4.

Saginaw Spirit:
1st Rd (#19): 03 LD Connor Punnett (6’1”, 185 lbs)

ohl scouting report
Connor is a tough stay at home defender that makes it very hard on the opposition in his own end. He is very physical and uses his explosive skating to close gaps. He has very good mobility and makes good crisp outlet passes. Connor moves the puck quickly and jumping into the rush when the opportunity arises. He is solid defensively and is an intimidating presence.

thescout.ca
Punnett is a physical two-way defenseman. A well-sized defenseman who uses his body to separate the player from the puck. A very tough player to beat 1-on-1 as he is a powerful mobile skater, keeps a tight gap and an active stick, and has the ability to step up and lay a hit. Punnett sees the ice quite well in the offensive zone – and makes accurate breakout passes. Defensively, he rarely looks to be under pressure and uses his quick stick and his body to help his goalie see the puck.

prospectpipeline
Connor Punnett has the ability to be a game changer at both ends of the ice. With intriguing offensive upside, he has the potential to be an elite puck-moving defenceman who can join the rush or skate the puck through the neutral zone himself. He has continued to grow in his defensive reliability as well, playing an intelligent and physical game in his own zone. As he continues to grow and strengthen, he will only become a more intimidating defender to face at either end of the ice.

If the player mentioned is included, I would help them empty their draft cupboard. I might even try to get the other 3rd round they have in 2024 I think

Being as this thread has been hijiacked with the Thomas trade........
Peterborough seems to like trading with Niagara. They have in the past so, why not do it again.
Their cupboard is in good shape. They have 3 second round picks in 2020 and more seconds in the following year.
They have beefed up their back end, so, why not go for Thomas.

Saginaw are in fact the perfect trade partners.

They have limited picks and are thus going to forced to trade their 03 (this situation sound familiar?). Past trade history shows these type of deals require an 03 player plus 4 picks - usually 2 seconds and 2 thirds or it could be 3 and 1.

Add to this the possibilities that Bode Wilde may return for a rehab year - the addition of Thomas would put Saginaw right where they need to be - to beat London in the west.

Saginaw has what the IceDogs need - and we have exactly what they are looking for.

I, as the GM and Joey has stated that any trade for Thomas must include the 2003 born 1st round pick of that team and I agree totally.
Saginaw has 2nd round picks from 2020 to 2024 and beyond, to go along with a 3rd round in 2020 and 2024.

Peterborough has 3 2nd round picks in 2020, 2 2nd round picks in 2022 plus they have 3rd round picks in 2021/22 and two 3rd round picks in 2023.
Both teams are in the buy mode.

Sounds good we seem to have the knack of making the Pete’s to over pay in our trades.

And the Petes have Mason McTavish. I'd be very happy with him coming to Niagara in any player swap. The rookie already has 4 pts (2 + 2) in 3 games.
