PART II DEFENSEMEN UPDATED (Oct. 1, 2018)

98 Jonathon Schaefer (OA)
99 Daniel Bukac - IMPORT BOSTON BRUINS
99 Liam Ham
99 Elijah Roberts
99 Drew Hunter
01 Billy Constantinou
01 Mason Howard
02 Lleyton Moore

99 Liam Ham (5.10 / 192 lbs)
• OHL PROSPECTS: 2018 NHL Draft Re-Entries - Honorable Mention
Felt Ham deserved mention because of how much he improved this year and because of how critical he was to Niagara's success this year. Plays in all situations for Niagara and logs a ton of minutes on an unheralded defense. He's only 5'10. And he's not the world's most dynamic skater. But he plays with a ton of heart and grit. And he's very intelligent at both ends. If the skating keeps improving, he's going to draw NHL interest by the time his OHL career is over.

01 Billy Constantinou (5.11 / 173 lbs)
• OHL PROSPECTS Top 10 Most Impressive 2001 Born Players
Man can this kid make plays with the puck. Super impressed by his skill level and hands. Walks the line and does a great job keeping pucks in and making crisp clean passes up ice. And while his defensive game still has room to improve, he's made some big plays in his own end too. Outside of Mike Vukojevic, Constantinou has the highest potential of any 2001 defender in the OHL.
I think this kid just oozes NHL potential. Constantinou is an explosive offensive defender who can lead the rush and push the pace. An effortless skater, Constantinou generates a ton of power and reaches top speed relatively quickly, allowing him to shoot out of the d-zone and start the breakout. Consistency in decision making was an issue. But I was impressed with his defensive zone commitment level, something that was supposed to be poor coming out of minor midget. He might have the highest ceiling of any defender on this list.

TOP PROSPECTS

01 Mason Howard (6.03 / 205 lbs) SIGNED
http://www.bpsportsniagara.ca/howard-joins-icedogs/
Scouting Report:
Howard is one of the top defensive prospects out of the Alliance. A blend of a throwback-style defending and modern day puck-moving. He's a smart distributor, yet also offers a feared physical element. One of the best checking defenders in his age group - punishes the puck-carrier with a heavy and clean open ice hit. He wins a majority of his battles.

02 Lleyton Moore (5.08 / 161 lbs) SIGNED
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=201922
Scouting Report:
"Moore is just playing a different game than everyone else. He can do things on his skates and has a mind for creativity that most can’t even dream of. Everyone points to his size, but this a player you pay to watch."

"Moore is one of the most talented offensive defensemen to come out of minor midget in recent memory. It won't be a shock to see Moore make an impact early in his OHL career."

"Moore proves that size is not always an indicator of a great defenceman. He possesses exceptional hockey IQ and skates with skill. Moore controls the play and can jump into the rush or defend. Furthermore, he is a leader who brings out the best in his teammates.”

TOP USA PROSPECTS
00 Adam Steinwold (6.04 / 190 lbs) DID NOT ATTEND 2018 CAMP

<> Selected 113th overall in the 6th round of the OHL Draft, there’s hope that Steinwold could be the next defensive cornerstone on Niagara’s blue line.

PART III FORWARDS UPDATED (Oct. 1, 2018)

99 Ivan Lodnia (5'11" / 185 lbs) MINNESOTA WILD - ELC
Regular Season 62 22 37 59
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...50/ivan-lodnia
He has drawn praise from scouts for his offensive abilities, especially his creativity and strength on the puck. Lodnia’s “ability to maneuver through traffic is fantastic,” His small stature doesn’t prevent him from getting to the dirty areas. Ivan Lodnia may not have great top end speed, but he does have a good first step and acceleration. His agility and edge work make him one of the most elusive. He makes tight turns and can change directions on a dime. Lodnia also has good lower body strength and balance.

99 Kiril Maksimov (6.02 / 193 lbs ) EDMONTON OILERS - ELC
#15 Regular Season NIAG 62 34 46 80
• Playoffs NIAG 10 4 6 10
“Could be that Maksimov ends up being a top-six forward. He’s got a great shot and playmaking ability. He gets penalty kill time and learning the two-way game.” – Keith Gretzky, Oilers Assistant General Manager

99 Ben Jones (6.00 / 187 lbs) LAS VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS - ELC
#17 Regular Season NIAG 68 30 49 79
• Playoffs NIAG 10 5 7 12
Ben Jones acknowledged by OHL coaches for his outstanding defensive play! Best Penalty Killer (1st) and Best Defensive Forward (3rd). Combined with Ben Jones' impressive offensive numbers has development into a complete player!

01 Phillip Tomasino (5.11 / 167 lbs)
Regular Season 61 5 19 24
OHL PROSPECTS: OHL Top 10 - Most Impressive 2001 Born Players
Tomasino possesses creativity with the puck and an explosive first few stride. He has excellent skating ability and puck possession ability to play down the middle moving forward. Look for his production to jump big time next year with added strength and a larger role.
Tomasino is a dynamic offensive player who loves to play at a high speed. Pushes the pace off the rush and possesses electric skating and puck handling ability, which causes a lot of match up issues for the opposition. Can he use his skating ability to become a nuisance without the puck this year? Playing with guys like the four above, he's going to have to operate a lot without the puck on his stick and that will be a great challenge for him. But big time offensive potential here.

00 Kyen Sopa (5'9" / 190 lbs) - IMPORT
https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/375827/kyen-sopa
A 17-year-old left winger, spent the past season with Bern U20 in the SC Junior A league. 02 Jake Uberti RW/C (5.11 / 155 lbs) SIGNED
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...79/jake-uberti
SCOUTING REPORT:
A dynamic attacking forward with the ability to make quick and precise decisions with the puck. Blessed with high-level puck handling skills - can create space or a scoring opportunity in a heartbeat. He is fearless and successful in cutting inside to the net. He is a creative goal-scorer. Built with good size and physical attributes, Uberti has no hesitation getting involved in any physical situation. Has a physical presence and toughness - won’t hesitate to lay the body on opponents.

Without a doubt, his skating ability is the strongest part of his game. Has the ability to accelerate and burn defensemen on the outside on a consistent basis. Strong and reliable defensively, he can win faceoffs and kill penalties when needed.
Has the offensive and physical tools required to be a game-breaking player and may prove that early in his OHL career.

Prospect Level: 1/2

02 Jonah De Simone RW (5.10, 162 lbs) SIGNED
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=397852
SCOUTING REPORT:
A tenacious goal scorer who goes into the dirty areas. Excellent skater – quick feet. He gets shots off quickly, find seams and has good hands. De Simone is a playmaker who is always active and around the puck. He showed very good hockey sense and has a fine set of hands.

TOP PROSPECTS
01 Ryan Campbell (6.00 / 174 lbs) INJURED (AT 2018 CAMP ON CRUTCHES)
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=418373
• DNP 2017-2018 (Injured / Shoulder Surgery).
• Cambridge sportswriter provided me the following information on Ryan Campbell. “He did miss this season with an injury – and did not play Junior B. He will attempt to crack the Ice Dogs roster (next year) as he has been working out while rehabbing.”
• 2017 OHL Development Combine Off-Ice Testing Top Performers: #1 Ryan Campbell
SCOUTING REPORT:
Campbell is a competitive, hard-skating pivot who offers diligence and smarts in all zones. A combination of speed and power. Dangerous at attacking in short bursts, jumping into lanes presented to him and ploughing his way into scoring areas. Good hockey sense, makes quick passing decisions and hits targets. He shows keen defensive awareness and being a committed backchecker. Pursues the opposition tirelessly to try and win back possession. His quickness, energy and clever anticipation also makes him an effective penalty killer.

Prior to the 2016-2017 season, here was Ryan Campbell’s Priority Selection Scouting Report:“ Campbell should be in firm contention for a top-10 slot. While he currently possesses all of the pro tools you could want out, Campbell needs to hone in on his offensive game to become a more consistent finisher. If he can make some strides in this area, there's no doubting the fact that he'll be a prospect every OHL team will be coveting.”

After the 2017 draft, the scout.ca wrote: "Campbell falls down to the 6th round for Niagara after starting the year as a candidate to be a 1st round pick. Campbell has loads of talent in so many different facets of the game. He has speed, stick handling and a great shot. His defensive game has improved this year and Campbell could be considered a steal in a couple years."

Prospect Level: 1/2

02 Stephen Halliday LW (6.03 / 202 lbs) DID NOT ATTEND 2018 CAMP
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...ephen-halliday
St. Catharines Standard
https://www.stcatharinesstandard.ca/...k-in-ohl-draf/
SCOUTING REPORT:
A big elite winger - strong skating ability, skill and great hands. Physically, he is a dominant force on the wing using his OHL-sized frame to protect the puck and make plays with his high-end vision. He can easily beat defenders one on one. Halliday has the potential to be a top winger at the OHL level with elite playmaking ability.

Halliday can dominate through his strong puck-pursuit and finishing ability. Has a solid physical element to his game. He is strong along the wall and constantly fights through checks of any sized defender. While he is a big man who doesn't possess elite breakaway speed, he does move very well for his size. He is a reliable defender who covers the defensive zone.

Prospect Level: 1

02 Ethan Sims C–R (5.08 / 144 lbs)
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=503249
SCOUTING REPORT:
Sims is a very strong playmaking centre due to his vision and passing accuracy. He has a very clean stride and a rocket of a wrister. Without the puck, he drives hard to the corners to retrieve pucks or battle for loose pucks and positioning near the net. He likes to use his body to knock pucks free with well timed body checks. The only minor weakness might be his lack of size. A highly-skilled offensive weapon who will hear his name called early in the upcoming OHL draft.

Ethan is a dynamic centre that has the ability to make highlight reel plays each shift he is on the ice. He is an explosive skater that changes gears in mid stride and has a top speed that most other players don’t have. Ethan is very skilled and can beat defenders wide.

Prospect Level: 2

02 Cameron Snow C/LW (5.05, 145 lbs)
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=488010
SCOUTING REPORT:
A dynamo, lauded for his ability to be a constant dangerous threat despite his diminutive stature. One of the best offensive players coming out of the ETA and very exciting player to watch play. A very fast skater. Using his fast hands and great vision, he is a threat every time he touches the ice. Fearless in the way he attacks, never shying away from bigger players. Uses his speed to burn opposing defenders in transition to gain odd man rushes. Extremely difficult for defenders to contain his shifty skating. Never slows down, playing at a high speed the entire game. Calm with the puck on his stick, using his vision to create scoring chances. A very accurate passer.
Prospect Level: 2

OMG Blacksox, what a truly amazing job you are doing!
Finally, someone giving us an update on Icedog prospects.
I asked Matt and DJ, also a sportswriter, awhile ago, why doesn't anyone ever keep us diehard fans informed about our draft prospects?
Blacksox to the rescue.

Matt and DJ, or even better, the Burkes need to hire this Blacksox!!

Thank you so very much for a tremendous job.

This is fantastic. Heaven knows how long it took you, but really impressive.

If Dhillon is back then looks like we need 1 D and 3 Fs that are quality?

Dhillon will be back no doubt in my mind unless a team goes through multiple injuries in net as for what else the team needs I’d say 2 forwards and we’ll see what else
