This is what happens when WJC organizers get greedy, and try to charge NHL prices for junior hockey. Toronto and Montreal did the same, with similar results. People don’t appreciate being gouged.

I hardly watch that tourney anymore mainly for the reasons above.
Greedy, greedy, greedy.

Put the touney back where it belongs, in my opinion, in CHL type venues.

Never going to happen though.

I wonder how much of that $35 million is really needed. The article I read mentioned that included in that 35 million was a new PA system but their PA system sounds better than ours.

Yes I also read that.

Even if their PA system needs replacement it’s not going to be a lot of $$$ compared to the $35M total ...

It’s unreal how much of a white elephant Copps Coliseum is. It is so unfortunate that it never has fulfilled the potential it had when it was built. I think you could say the same for the SkyDome, which was completed 3 years later. Copps was built in anticipation of an NHL expansion bid(which failed), and the Dome’s original intent was to replace Maple Leaf Gardens. The Raptors played games in the Dome in their first year, also some in MLG. The ACC was completed in the Raps’ 3rd year.

No, it was intended to replaced the stadium at the CNE.

And be the new home of the Blue Jays as well as a multi-purpose venue.

The intent of the Dome was for the Jays lol. The intent of the ACC was to be a basketball ONLY facility.

The intent of the Acc was to be a basketball only facility .... the Leafs and Jays has separate owners at the time the Acc was built ... the raptors played in the dome until the Acc was built probably because the leafs and raptors owners were sparring with each other over a new arena.

Eventually the raptors started building the Acc and the leafs figured if they wanted in on that building they should just buy the raptors so they did and made some minor modifications to the plans to make it suitable for hockey as well.

I’ve heard some experts say that is why it’s not the greatest arena for hockey because it was designed to be a basketball only facility.

Sad about Copps .... Agreed. I went to game three of the Canada Cup Russia final in 87 on my fifteenth birthday and remember thinking how fabulous this brand new arena was ... we sat in the very last row of the arena ... went with my dad and uncle ... can still remember it... get goosebumps when i watch the game winning goal ... get goosebumps just texting about it right now lol

I was recently at the FirstOntario Centre(for a Bulldogs/IceDogs game in early December)...and I thought it was bad THEN. (And I didn't think much of it when the Bulldogs were an AHL team.) That said, I really don't know if Buffalo would be an option for the Bulldogs if they have to pack up and move again. They'd have, at BEST, third choice for scheduling purposes(Sabres come first, then the NLL's Bandits). AND the KeyBank Center has no curtains for the top deck, so they'd either have to open up all levels or restrict it to the 100 and 200 levels only.
