Touching message from a Hockey Hall of Famer...

This may be a little graphic for some, but I need to share. Last night Niagara Ice Dogs goalie Tucker Tynan was cut badly playing London Knights. The guy hovering over top of him is Doug Stacey, London’s head physio and former head Physio of our National Team. Doug and the other therapist, Chris Trivieri, applied a tourniquet and did everything right in those precious few seconds and saved Tyson’s life. It takes just minutes to die from an injury like this.

There has been so much bad press about hockey lately, I felt compelled to share a good news story about the amazing people in the game. Yes, a freak and one in a million injury, but quick reaction and training saved a life last night. Where medicine meets hockey. Way to go Doug and the rest of the medical and training staff, Tucker is going to recover.

Same here. To me, it brought back memories of the nights that Clint Malarchuk and Richard Zednik both suffered skate slashes to...well, do I NEED to say what body part?

As far as Tynan goes, he apparently was at USA Hockey's U17 camp this past summer(that's per the Twitter feed of Chris Parker, better known as Bulldog on WGR/550 in Buffalo...AND also the dad of a goalie(his son, Owen. He's better known as GGS(Giant Goalie Son).) Parker sent along best wishes for a full recovery to Tynan.

This life threatening injury to Tucker has picked up the chatter once again on player equipment, especially, the goal tending gear.
Maybe something else that should be looked at in today's hockey is the crashing ofthe net by players all the teams in all leagues.
Just a thought.

Is there not some sort of fabric (kevlar perhaps) that is flexible and light that resist cutting?

I don't know myself and I am hoping somebody comes up with a solution. Because this will not be the last time it happens and next time there might not be skilled medical staff seconds away.

I thought the sock were kevlar.. but I think that the cut was above the socks

I have Kevlar socks and they aren’t very flexible and they are kinda tight around the ankle ... maybe mine are poorly designed I dunno ... but it’s ridiculously hard to put my
Kevlar socks on cuz of their inflexibility

I’m guessing something could be made to wear almost like a tight fitting boxer short, to cover the thigh area ... I wasn’t sure where abouts he got cut if it was the lower or upper leg area

This is exactly the reason I brought it up a few posts above.
Way too much crashing the net these days.
When I played and later stood on the benches, players skated hard to the net, meaning they were skating to the goal post, looking for a past.
Today, the goalie is pretty much open season and there is nothing to stop from nailing the goalie. In the olden days, a goalie who stayed in his crease, for the most part was pretty safe. But, if the goalie left the crease, he became a target and it was open season on him.
Have to go out the door, may finish this thought later, I think.
