DeDobbelaer tried buying the Steelheads in 2018. The owner, Elliot Kerr, would not sell it as he enjoys owning an OHL team. I could see him wanting to move the team out of Mississauga when the lease is up after next season but not necessarily selling it.

A 5% stake in the team means he is a part owner in name only. I really believe that DeDobbelaer’s plan is to convince another team to move here and then ask St. Catharines to allow him to move the team to Brantford. Remember he moved the Milton Jr A team to Brantford despite the OHA saying he couldn’t. My feeling is he won’t let a few roadblocks get in his way.

OHL a bit different have to get approval from Hamilton and Guelph.

So you actually think that if DeDobbelaer's plan was to eventually move the team to Brantford, he would tell the media. That is silly. Of course he is going to say he wants to keep the team here.

Look, it was reported that he was interested in buying the Otters in 2015 and the Steelheads in 2018. Around the same time he was talking to the Steelheads owner, the city of Brantford got a request from an unnamed person asking the city to spend $150,000 on a study that would look at what they needed to do to renovate their arena for an OHL team.

It's obvious that he wants to bring an OHL team to Brantford. He has a Jr. B team there. Then he purchased a Jr. A team and despite the OHA telling him he couldn't move the team to Brantford, he did it anyway and ended up fighting with the OHA. This shows how much he loves Brantford.

Like I said previously, I am not worried. He has to get permission from St. Catharines to move the IceDogs and the only way that is happening is if another team comes here to replace the IceDogs. But I think its silly to believe that he no longer wants to bring an OHL team to Brantford.

City councillors voted this week not to hire, at a cost of up to $150,000, an architecture firm to do a cost study and basic design concept.

“The task force discussed the feasibility study and concluded that $150,000 is too much money to spend on an endeavour that has no guaranteed return on investment,” said Coun. Dan McCreary, chair of the task force. “Further, the timing is not ideal for the spending of such funds and the risk is too high.”

“We hope to continue discussions with this group. Perhaps this will come to fruition but not on the backs of Brantford taxpayers.”


They voted not to spend money on a report. They didn’t say the arena can’t be fixed up or that they didn’t want an OHL team.

I agree with you it won’t happen but an owner isn’t going to tell media if he actually planned on moving the team
