Not sure if anyone has seen this on Twitter but apparently last night Bones took a ladies popcorn and dumped it over her head. The lady was a Peterborough fan and is furious. She says the arena would not even replace her popcorn. Most of the posts on Twitter are calling for the IceDogs to make it right.
What gets me is Matt and DJ respond on Twitter saying: "People are actually mad about a mascot dumping popcorn on someone... People need to relax and enjoy life more. Dear god...." And "Twitter the last 12 hours makes me weep for humanity. #popcorngate #stayhomethen" And "zero sympathy.....youre wearing it out....its POPCORN... People have lost their damn minds" I can tell you if I was visiting another OHL's team arena and their mascot dumped popcorn on me I would be furious. I know people who hate it when Bones throws popcorn from the suite level on people below, never mind a whole bucket of popcorn on someone's head. I am sure the IceDogs will make this right as sometimes even good mascots make mistakes. However, some people see Matt and DJ as representing the IceDogs and their response on Twitter is nothing short of disgraceful. They didn't have popcorn poured on them and have no right to tell her that she shouldn't be mad and should relax. I use to like Matt and DJ but after following their Twitter account for the last few months, they appear completely arrogorant. I hope the IceDogs make it clear that they have no affiliation with these two guys because they are really making an already bad situation into something much worse. Yes, I saw that on twitter, did you see the last name of the person? I think they are related to a PP's player.

My wife, son and I have been to many, many out of town games over the past few years and have never been treated like that.
Hell, in Sault-Ste-Marie last season, we were thanks for coming by many fans in and out of the building. We have been given some looks on a few occasions, but nothing more than that. If something like that ever happened to any member of my family,, ownership would hear about it right away. I have no doubt that the Burke family will make every attempt to make this issue right. I also am surprised that Matt & DJ do not have an issue with what happened. |

While I will agree that I am not a fan of Matt & DJ as reporters. I feel they are complacent, and their coverage of the IceDogs IS very lackadaisical, and they contribute to the team's problems communicating to fans by not asking good / the right questions. That being said, I'm going to side with them on this one... It's popcorn, and it's a mascot who is known for being more than a little mischievous (the ones on the ice aren't the only #PeskyDogs)... People need to grow up. If you come into someone else's barn, supporting the opposing team, you're gonna get the business... Now, my belief is that. it is dumb that her popcorn wasn't replaced. That's just good customer service. But pretty sure that's on SMG. Maybe give Bones business cards that say good for 1 free replacement popcorn if he is allowed to do something like this again. I am sure that I would take it with good humour if I went to their arena and their mascot gave me the business for wearing my IceDogs jersey. This isn't a case of a good mascot making mistakes, it's a case of some people just needing to have something to complain about. It's not the end of the world. And if people can't take stuff like this, in the spirit that it's intended, maybe they should stay home. #Don'tNeuterOurMascot... But that's just, like, my opinion man... Is this really that big of a deal it happens all the time with him and I've seen it around the league and majority of the fans home team or opposing laugh about it and love the antics of the mascots the dogs will ultimately make things right like they hopefully have always done when Bones does this kind of stuff

I agree that some people might be okay with it but many, including myself would not be. I have been to hundreds, if not thousands of hockey games and have never seen a bucket of popcorn being poured over someone's head. I would not want that to happen to me and would not think it's funny if it happened to someone else.

I am a fan of Bones as is one of the best if not the best in the league. We also know that the original Bones retired and we have a new one this season, but,
He crossed the line last night. Poking fun at visiting fans is ok and we have been worked over at many out of town games ourselves, but, never once, has anything like that ever happened to us. Once again, I would be pissed. |

I dunno... even if it was in OUR rink I think someone would have to restrain me pretty hard from wiping the steps with the mascot.
Maybe I'd just buy a drink that really stains and dump it on the mascot's head. But if it happened to me, I'd be bloody fumin. Having salt and butter all in your hair and clothes is probably funny for some people to see... but other people might think it's funny to see a mascot having his lunch fed to him in front of 5000 people. |
