The draft is full of what ifs isn’t it? I guess I was just looking at it from the point of you’re going to suck either way and getting a first round pick in a year you don’t have one might not be that bad

Uhmmm you are no further ahead lol

You would have wasted a first round pick the year before on a no show player...

The pick you receive in the year you don?t have a first rounder is just to replace the one you wasted drafting the non reporter the year before .

Given the circumstances the Dogs are in, no first rounder next year, no second or thirds in 2019 draft, nothing much left from 2018, they can?t afford to draft someone who won?t report.

Best case you draft a very good player he reports your team hopefully takes a step forward and you still finish hopefully 7-8
I thought the same but apparently they're not eligible for a compensation pick next year as part of their punishment for the Wilkie incident.

Ok... So let's say the IceDogs draft Fantilli the Younger. And he doesn't report this year, are you willing to forgo him for this season, and hope his parents decide to have him report next season? He's a year older, and away from our 'development' for a season (which depending on your opinion, is a good thing or a bad thing. I don't judge...), and have him next season and for the next few seasons? I mean, he still reports, but... Not this season. Is it worth it to you, to have him play a season in the USHL if you get him in the long run. Is Captain Tripps (COVID-19) a reason for the parents to want him closer to home playing in Niagara?

Seriously, just bored as and dying for the draft to be over so we have something to talk / dream about until training camp... lol

Unless Fantilli commits to coming here this year I would not touch him. We can't go two years in a row without a first round pick in the lineup.

We need a forward who will start immediately on our first for second line.

How about they wait until they have a team worthy of going for. Forcing it hasn't worked.

It is my hope that they start building their teams that will be competitive every season, similar to the Evil Empire. If it looks like the team might be real good that year, buy a couple of pieces to put them over the top.
No more of these all in and pay for it the next few years.

All this said

I keep hearing conflicting reports. If we draft him, he wont report, and we trade him to London or Kitchener some say we get the 5th overall pick as compensation next year, while others say that we dont get a 1st in any way possible (which doesn't make sense, they already took a pick from us, we were punished, this is different).

If we would get the 5th overall pick, and a decent package from London or Kitchener, it actually sets us up to do a proper rebuild starting next summer.
