So the Icedogs officially announced that the Brantford 99ers are the Icedogs affiliate this season, ending their affiliation with a local Jr. B team. https://niagaraicedogs.net/article/n...rantford-99ers

We have 6 Jr. B teams in Niagara but instead we are affiliated with a team that is an hour to 1.5 hours away depending on traffic. In the press release, they say it will allow prospects to play and develop in Brantford. But Jr A and Jr B teams are only allowed two 16 year olds on their roster. And usually if a kid isn’t playing in the OHL by the time he is 17, he likely won’t make the jump. This season the Brantford 99ers have zero players selected by the IceDogs from the 2022 priority draft.

Contrary to popular belief an affiliated team is not where prospects go to develop. Since Jr A and B teams are only allowed two 16 year olds on their roster, the players drafted by the Icedogs in the 2022 draft who do not make the Icedogs this season will be dispersed to different teams. In fact, most OHL teams have people who will help find roster spots for their 16 year old prospects.

So what is the purpose of an affiliated team. Any player on an affiliated team who has not been drafted by another OHL team can be called up to play with the OHL team. The OHL team can also call up any player they drafted or signed even if that player does not play for the affiliated team. So basically an affiliated team just allows the OHL team to have more players to call up.

So why name the Brantford 99ers, who are 100 km away, as the affiliated team? It gives the 99ers another tool to recruit players. Now players who play for the 99ers have the perk of being called up to play a few games for an OHL team.

Or you use your 15th round pick to select a player that will play for your Jr. B team. I bring that up as our 15th round pick Michael Yu is playing for the Jr. B Brantford Bandits.

Because you spent 20 million on your new toy and you're going to do whatever the bleep you want with it. Whether it people on a dinky little fan site like it or not.

Just my guess.

They have been playing shorthanded on D, so hopefully this is someone they can utilize on the OHL team.

This also screams that Littlejohn and Douglas-Najem have likely been released. Obviously this isn't for sure, but at some point they would have played instead of 4 or 5 d if the team had any interest in them.
If Runco plays 30 OHL games between the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, the 15th-round pick becomes the Oshawa Generals eighth-round pick in 2024.

Just my guess.

Will the 50-50 proceeds still go to the St Catharines Falcons Jr B team?

Lol

Oh, I had no idea there would be a rule against that. Please accept my apology.

Now to go read the rules again.
