With Niagara, Kingston and The Soo all out of playoff contention this year it will be hard to argue competitiveness by next year. I think it has to be Saginaw.

They also have the exceptional player

I cannot imagine it goes anywhere but Saginaw

I wonder if it will draw well there ?

I honestly do not follow the MemCup very much as I think the format is kinda a joke. I am too lazy to look it up, offhand does anyone know if it has been hosted outside of Canada and how well it fared in terms of attendance ?

Portland and Seattle both hosted in the last 50 years. No idea how they did.

Spoiler alert, it isn't too favourable.

Hahahahaha love the write up on the Dogs

Sad but true

He is a joke, what a fool to put a bid in to host when the team is a complete gong show from top to bottom.

He really is dumber than I ever imagined he could be

I figured Saginasty would be a no brainer, but, 25 years since a US city hosted it makes me wonder if the CHL doesnt want the tourney in the USA

I think the Soo will get it

Oh according to Darren they only had two head coaches this year so the writer is wrong lol

Heard Mahood on the radio this morning say that we find out the Mem Cup host and the draft order this week.

Good summary.

The only downside for the Icedogs that they mention is team performance this year. Its a big downside but still, we have a chance.

This about describes this season perfectly...

"Case Against

Then there’s the actual team. It’s a mess. There’s no way anyone could have any serious expectations that this team, the way it’s currently run, could be anything other than a new Dukes of Hamilton for the OHL.

Their record this season is a pitiful 12-45-8. A -149 goal differential. They made over 30 trades and had three head coaches. The owner named himself GM, which is never, ever, ever, a good sign, and ran the team while also running TWO OTHER TEAMS. And they all stunk.

There is no consistency to anything being done in this franchise, and it’s a small, petty thing, but they don’t even put out food for visiting media & scouts. It’s bush league, Jr C level competence in the Meridian Centre, and the bid for the Memorial Cup is a dog & pony show being done to distract local fans from the disaster on the ice. Maybe if things settle down, they can build something for the next time the OHL hosts the tournament in 2027. Maybe."

It didn't distract me. Hard to miss just how incompetently the franchise was run and how awful the on ice product ended up being.

The funny thing it's not the IceDogs that put the Memorial Cup bid together. It was led by former Mayor of St. Catharines Walter Sendzik and Doug Hamilton and whoever is behind Sport Niagara or Niagara Sport or whatever its called.

Mawhood had Doug Hamilton on his show, and new Mayor Siscoe had Doug Hamilton on his show too. So there's that. It wasn't DaDobbelear and his group. It was others.
