On the CHL site the following quote appears:

The Canadian Hockey League announced today that four Ontario Hockey League clubs have submitted intents to bid for the hosting rights of the 2024 Memorial Cup presented by Kia.

I am sure one of the facets of a bid is municipal/community support and donations or fee waivers to ensure profitability. I doubt a municipality could bind an independent team over to playing host and competing unilaterally, I am confident the team has to sponsor the idea.

Agreed

Perhaps they helped him compile the bid as far as what the region has to offer etc

But certainly the bid is submitted by the dummy himself

It is his responsibility not the region or city

The City is involved with the bid.

Quote:
The Niagara IceDogs’ bid to host the 2024 Memorial Cup has the backing of St. Catharines city councillors who have agreed to waive more than $350,000 in city fees if successful.

The amount is mainly in free rent and ice time at Meridian Centre for the 10-day tournament — an investment council was told could lead to a $10- to $15-million economic boon for the city.

IceDogs majority owner-general manager Darren DeDobbelaer told council its support carries no risk to the city.
and

Quote:
“I’m very hopeful and very optimistic,” Mayor Mat Siscoe said before council voted unanimously in support of the bid.

“I do think we have the premier facility in Ontario at the very least, if not across the CHL. And that’s not just hometown pride, that’s officials within the CHL saying this is one of the best, if not the best, facilities at the amateur level across the country. And so we should look forward to the opportunity to showcase it.”

The city’s support would total about $357,336. That includes waiving about $254,000 in fees at the city-owned Meridian Centre and making $60,000 in capital improvements to dressing rooms and storage areas.

It would also waive the costs of road closures, about $12,000, and the off-site practice rental fees for teams at the Seymour-Hannah sports complex or Canada Games Park, estimated at just less than $15,000. Another $16,000 in parking fees at Meridian Centre site and Race Street parking lots for organizers and staging would also be waived.

A staff report said previous communities that hosted the Memorial Cup saw $10 million to $15 million in economic impact.

DeDobbelaer said statistics show Memorial Cup games average 90 per cent to full capacity and the CHL alone requires 255 hotel rooms for 10 nights. That doesn’t include fans, parents, friends and other spectators who will come to the city.

I think we will get it for a few reasons.

- Relatively new arena that was designed for televised games.

- A tie-in with Niagara tourism.

- the City is offering street closures for parties

- The closest the tournament has been to Toronto in 14 years

- great track record of hosting national sporting events

- good history of hockey ticket sales (the last thing they want to see is empty seats)

I can’t see how they can give it to Niagara. The team is in danger of not making the playoffs again next year.

The city and community were involved, but it was the IceDogs who made the bid.

It would be a huge stain on the team, one they would be notorious for in decades to come.

I’d bet my house they don’t get it.

They’ve brought nothing but embarrassment to the league for the last three years.

Add the fact that the team is trash on the ice. With little to, no chance of being competitive.

Mr.DD: Hire an experienced GM, keep your hands tied, your mouth shut. Let him fix the train wreck you’ve created. Start the rebuild now, the right way. Bid again 2026.

There’s no doubt the league would like to have the Cup played for in Niagara. But, they’re not going to embarrass themselves on the National stage to do so.
