It's really difficult to see much improvement in most of the young players to be honest. I was hoping that after the trades we'd see one or 2 really step their game up but so far it's just more of the same. They'd better have a good draft and import pick because right now there's little to get excited about.
It is the fractured coaching team which we have that has the task of bringing along these young players. I fear we are not addressing the need for this vitally important task & we may not have "the focus" to do this to the needed degree. A mature coaching group can do this well. Look at a few other teams. Just giving playing time does count, yet is not nearly what "could be". Nepotism may be guilty of ignoring this fundamental part of coaching. Bill & Denise may not even know how this is so important in creating the kind environment which supports player growth when they "gave" the reigns to BB & JB.
8 pts separate us from the goal. Hope we make it...

IceDogs have no 2021 1st round pick. Concern? Sure. Panic? No need to.

No one will ever argue that a 1st rd pick is not important. However, it is not a final dagger to your organization. Nor does that set back automatically mean you cannot overcome it - and be successful in the immediate and near future. As they are currently setup, the IceDogs have a lot of picks in the high rounds, so the key to success is simple - draft well with the picks you do have.

The Ottawa 67s were built primarily through a series of successful drafts, in those 2nd and 3rd rounds. In fact, for all intent and purposes, Ottawa sits atop the OHL without any contribution from two high 1st rd picks: 2016 (00) Peter Stratis (11th overall), who should be their NHL drafted star 19 year old Ė like perhaps an Akil Thomas (12th overall) and 2018 (02) Cameron Tolnai (6th overall) who just recently surpassed last yearís goal total of 3.

So, regardless if your 1st rd pick(s) fail or you donít have one, it does not mean you canít become the #1 team in the CHL .

The Dogs don’t have a 2021 1st round pick. They do have their 1st-rounder this year(TBD where the pick is, but it’s looking pretty high). They also have a good pile of second-rounders and 3rd rounders. It is a huge draft, one that could really turn the fortunes of this team around.

It is clearly in the hands of Joey and head scour Mr MacLeod. I am sure they have done their homework and been out to see all the players mentioned here. Hopefully their extensive experience in scouting will prove fruitful. My only concern is that some agents may not want their players here with that coaching staff. Luckily Mr MacLeod has a history as a strong recruiter so that should help as well

I would say this is our most important draft in quite some time. Lots of pressure on the management for sure.

I think Blacksox is a better scout than Jumbo.

Blacksox has provided us with a lot of information, but, I don't believe that he has shared his 1st round pick with us yet. He must be waiting closer to the date.
Curious as to who his pick might be.

There is more to scouting than picking the right numbers. The second half of the equation is establishing rapport with a player, his agent and/or family. It is that sort of relationship that gives the team confidence (or reluctance) to draft a player.

He’s definitely waiting to see where we’d pick but the obvious first choice would be fantilli but if he’s not available I’d go for Goyette and if he’s taken (if we make the playoffs) my third choice would be Ludwinski

If Blacksox were a better scout than Mr MacLeod he would be the Director of Scouting. We are lucky to have someone as experienced and dedicated as Mr MacLeod to lead our rebuild. Between him and Joey we are in good hands
