To be recognized in the top 6 of the entire CHL by a very credible junior hockey source is impressive! Proving a lot of people - myself included - wrong!

You are right about him being just a sports guy who covers hockey and on top of that, he takes home a pretty good pay cheque.
I am not a fan of Cosentino but, this was his article on Sportsnet from earlier today.

Cosentino began broadcasting hockey in 1998 as a color commentator on Rogers TV's Ontario Hockey League broadcasts.

In 2003, he joined Rogers Sportsnet as a junior hockey analyst.

6. Billy Burke, Niagara IceDogs: Nepotism was thought to be the main reason behind the hiring of Burke in Niagara, with his parents Denise and Bill as team owners, but the IceDogs have been at or near the top of the OHL’s Central Division standings all season long. The addition of Ted Dent to the staff has made a difference, but Burke has done a great job handling a young team amidst the noise surrounding the family-run operation. The Dogs have been equally as good at home as they’ve been on the road, they play hard and have proven they can beat the league’s best. Niagara has regularly given up the first goal in games, though, which is an area they must improve on. While regular season placement doesn’t ensure playoff success, it’s hard to argue with their results to date.
RSJ, what makes Burke’s 6th place ranking impressive is that most of the new coaches ahead of Burke – inherited teams that were either preseason CHL favourites, teams with a lot of 1st round NHL talent or teams that decided to “go all in”. On the other hand, Burke inherited a team - some thought would be at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings or playing .500 hockey at best.

For Burke to have Niagara competing and over-achieving after 47 games (26–14–4–3) is quite an accomplishment (1st Central Division, 2nd Eastern Conference and 5th OHL) – certainly makes Burke worthy of this recognition to this point. At the start of the season, I would have figured NONE of this was possible!

He's really done a good job IMO. Things looked kind of bleak when they lost their 7th straight on Nov 11th but he managed to right the ship and besides that stretch they've been pretty good most of the year. I thought they'd be 4th-6th in the east but figured they'd need Dhillon to be up around .920 to do that. He's had a rough year and they're still better than that at this point.

Having read the above two posts, I agree with both of you. Not to rain on Billy's parade though, I am thinking that the influence of Ted Dent is a large piece of the puzzle.
Good on Billy for listening to what Dent has to say as he is picking up valuable information from him.

I think a coaching staff thrives or fails as a unit. If Billy takes a back seat to Dent when he's in over his head I have no problem with that. If that's the case let's hope he's soaking it all in.
