Game Thread Sudbury Wolves @ Niagara IceDogs - Friday, 2019.03.08

Niagara IceDogs:
3rd in the East after 63 games with 85 points, 39-17-7-0 or 0.675%
Scoring: Robertson 43-63, Jones 39-56, Thomas 34-60
Goaltending: Dhillon 51GP 3.02GAA(7th) 0.908%(5th)

Sudbury Wolves:
2nd in the East after 63 games with 85 points, 40-18-3-2 or 0.675%
Scoring: Ruzicka 28-39, Byfield 29-32, Murray 29-19
Goaltending: Luukkonen 48GP 2.51GAA(2nd) 0.918%(1st)

No doubt about it, the Sudbury team plays their games behind a brick wall. Luukkonen is tough to score against and as his opponents press hard, they abandon defense and the Wolves take full advantage. Sudbury likes to hit hard and play rough, but if the IceDogs can get under their skin and stay calm, the game is winnable.

Gap to First Place: 12 points
Clinched Playoff Position: Ottawa (Clinched Division), London(Clinched Division), Sault Ste. Marie, Saginaw, Niagara, Oshawa, Guelph, Sudbury

Every game is winnable it’s the OHL after all. Looking at some special teams stats going into this game it’s the best PP in the league (us) vs the worst (Sudbury) and the second best PK (Sudbury) vs the 14th PK (us)............I think special teams makes a difference although I hope the refs let them play I’m hoping for a 4-2 Niagara win with a EN cheeseburger goal

If the expectation is that the IceDogs playoff version show up tonight, then the expectation should be extend to the playoff version of IceDogs fans to show up tonight to.

Get into the game - let Sudbury know they are in enemy territory - make some noise - and EVERYONE standup and cheer after an IceDogs goal.

Come on, create some home ice intimidation!

IceDogs have complete control over the outcome of this game. If they don’t wait for the game to come to them, Dogs win. If they don’t wait for UPL to decide to shut them out, Dogs win.
The Dogs’ power play is really good: it has to be a factor. If the Dogs don’t let those Pilon brothers drive them crazy, Dogs win.

Maximov needs to turn the other cheek for sure tonight as he will be undoubtedly targeted by the Pylons.

I say the Dogs reverse the odds and win 4 to 3.
